IT'S NOT SOOOO BAD... 4 1/2 hrs to impeccable sandstone in northern arkansas and southern illinois; 1 1/2 hours to limestone river craggin', 6 hours to great granite in OK...AAAND only 1 1/2 hours to Denver(who says I DRIVE everywhere!?) I'll be on the lookout. BE on the lookout for us in the same car(Passport)...only green with Misery plates. Jer

Apparently Camhead is a runout fearin' wussy. But his Landcruiser could kick our little Rodeo/Passport wannabe trucks asses.

pedro- change of plans, we will be in a silver civic...EVEN more of a WUSSY car! However...MUCH better GAS MILEAGE!!!:D I've never been before, so I'm sure you'll find us on the classics. We will be a threesome, so I imagine one of us would be snootin around for partners if the time goes by too slow... jer

Heads up guys, its gonna be cold this weekend! You should be alright on a south face where you get the sun, but that granite gets cold on any North sides. You shoulda been up here last weekend! mid-50s on Sunday and 60s on monday! (may i remind you that it is still January) A bunch of us were out of school for MLKing Day and it was Fabulous in the Narrows at the Wichitas. Good Luck and Stay Warm! God Bless

We climbed on Saturday. Had a great time. The temps were in the low to mid 50s, but the sun was out and the wind calm so it was very pleasant. We left Sunday morning - it was frickin freezing and blowing then.

By the way, in case any one is interested, I highly recommend staying in the Lodge at Quartz Mountain Resort. Their winter rates, which run through March, are $59/night. First class accomodations at bargain rates. The restaurant isn't cheap (dinner for 2 will cost you as much as your room, but it's very good. I know it's wimpy, but not everyone has cold weather camping gear, and some of us get in our share of snow camping and like a little luxury sometimes. I was talking to the manager there, and it looks like they'll be constructing some more trails there this spring, including one directly from the lodge to Baldy Point, so that'll offer some other recreational opportunities. http://www.quartzmountainresort.com/
