6 hours is way too far for me. I'll do some research for the next gathering, maybe in CPA, and maybe even a mini gathering in WPA.

There is a Mariott in Poughkeepsie (about 16 miles away) and plenty of B&Bs locally. Go to WWW.newpaltz.com and check the lodging section. Will you guys attend the community dinner? Please let me know so that I can plan for your presence.

I've stayed in the Econolodge in New Paltz. The rooms were plain and clean. The owners were comical. ChuckH

All, if you want to help, please see the thread regarding leaders and cooks. We are in need of leaders at all levels (5.3-5.10+). Thanks, Gail

Hey everyone...just saw this now, but I'm interested to hear about it... as a newbie (only been outside a couple of times and then only toproping), is there room for me at the gathering or is it for more advanced climbers? I'd like to go, but I would not want to be a bother or hold people back. Thanks. K.

Kimmyt...you will have a great time at the gunks, there are climbs at all levels and you will not be holding anyone back. Please consider joining us. Although drkudos indicated that these events are social events, I am trying to organize some good climbing for folks at all levels. We can let the social stuff happen at night. Hope you can join us

i don't know if anyone has discussed this, but please keep in mind that carpooling is NECESSARY. Just as the camping is very limited in the gunks, parking is a certain issue. west traps lot, warwarsing lot and even the overlook (even tho its only limited to 30 min.) has been filling up very early a.m over the last few weekends. The overlook is really meant for leaf-peepers who spend 30 min or less but regardless you will find many a climber parked there all day long. Please be considerate as it proves a reflection on us as climbers to the local community. On another note, i read someone complaining about the camping available, really the lack thereof...FYI the township of Gardiner I believe has been in the prelim planning of a legit site for some time now. it'll be a while, but to encourage as opposed to discourage, it helps to remember your manners. pick up trash, extinguish and dispose of cig butts, keep it quiet, low impact everything...

Directions to the Trapps lot: Follow 299 out of New Paltz until you come to a "T" in the road (interesection of 299 and 44/55. Take a right on 44/55 and follow past the hairpin turn, go under the bridge and begin looking for the parking lot on your right. (about 1/8 mile from bridge). Take a right into the parking lot.
