Hey everyone, I'll be down in Urbana this fall at U of I and I'm going to be looking for partners to split gas for the drive down to Jackson Falls or Draper's or Giant City on the weekends. My climbing is just breaking into the 10s, my biggest accomplishment to date being a 10a/b onsight. So far I've climbed outside mainly at Devil's Lake, and a very little bit out west. Is anyone on RC.com going to be at U of I in urbana/champaign or Illinois State this upcoming year? Well, I'd love to hear from you. I'll also be looking at the Lifelines Fittness center in Champaign as soon as I get down there. Move-in day is August 19th!

maybe more people will get their flames lit and this topic running if I ask for any comments or criticism or general reputation summary for the U of I urbana/champaign climbing or outdoor adventure club...

Hey I would be more than happy to climb with you but I have never climbed outdoors, I'm doing 5.9/10 inside. Also if you want to hit anyplace indoors I'm cool with that too.

So U of I has a climbing club, look for them on quad day. I think this website is stiull cuyrrent, but who knows, college group websites change quickly: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ro/www/ClimbingClubatUIUC/ci_news.htm
Oh, and that Lifelines Fitness Center gym is pretty bad. It was poor my first two years, then they moved and made the gym worse. There should be a climbing gym in IMPE at some point, maybe this year?

Anyway, enjoy UIUC!

lewyblue, I'd love to climb with you anywhere, I'm breaking into the upper 10's myself now...as I get closer to starting school I'm thinking less and less that I will have a car first semester there...so I will probably just be taking all of the UIUC Climbing CLub trips.

jpdreamer, yea, I've been all over their climbing club site but it's all dates and meetings and stuiff from like last april, but I will be checking them out as soon as I get on campus. I haven't gotten a chance on my visits to check out LifeLines but I will only have to rely on them for gym climbing for my first year there...the IMPE climbing gym will be up my sophomore year and I plan on spending my free time there. Yes, on my first visit day down there, the first and only questions I asked the PhysEd department were about climbing, climbing clubs, local gyms, and the expected completion time for the IMPE gym, haha.

Just so you know, like any college climbing club, the trips schedule doesn't actually reflect how often people in the club go down climbing. There's lots of informal "Hey anybody wanna hit up Jackson this weekend?" stuff going on, so don't let the scarcity of official trips concern you.

awesome, and thanks for all the other imput too. I'm excited to be going to such a big college where, while there isn't climbing in my backyard, I can still meet a lot of other climbers. Haha, all my climbing partners now were my friends...then they started climbing...because of me. So they pretty much learned everything from me and don't climb as hard as me, so I'm excited to meet some climbers better than me and learn something myself.
