Like Alpine Rock with relatively easy access and good food and drink? - Chamonix has a lot to offer. We went there in mid June last year and climbed for a month.
We found that the Envers Hut makes a great base for rock routes such as Children of the Moon, Chihuahua, La Piege, Bienvenue Georges V, Guy-Anne l'ensolite and Amazonia. These are all 6a-b mixed routes, a light rack is needed.
On the way to the Envers Hut, there is a stimulating ladder down-climb followed by a beautiful hike up the Mer de Glace glacier. We suggest making reservations for the hut. You can call ahead to the hut keeper. A French Alpine Club membership will save Euros if you stay at least 5 nights in any of the 30 or so huts.
The Cosmique hut behind the Midi is also an excellent base for rock routes on the South Pillar of the Midi, such as the Rebuffat, or mixed routes such as the Chere Gulley.
Easier routes can be found on the L'M and Papillion's Ridge.
In town, we stayed with a friend who rents out the mazot in back of her chalet. It has a perfect view of Mt Blanc. You can contact her at florence.kielholz@mac.com

Excellent. Unfortunately, my wife hates the cold. Fine with me, plenty of grea places to climb in Shorts and tshirt during June or July

You can upload the picture to RC.com or photobucket (or any similar site) after right clicking then click "Copy Image Address."
Finally click [image] then paste image address, then unclick the [/image]

Great TR, Satch. I was there in June-July of 2008 - also spent a fair bit of time at the Envers hut - and it was amazing. Simply breathtaking with amazing climbing!

The first shot was near the base of L'M, second and fourth shot were on "Le Ticket, Le Rond, Le Carre, et La Lune" on the Peigne,
Third shot was the "Papillon Ridge" on the Peigne.

Anyone have any beta on the Walker Spur on the Grande Jorasses? I've heard good things & read what summitpost has to offer, but still no specifics. It seems that many long and hard routes exist. I am most interested in rock/not ice and in free or mostly free climbs in the 5.11something range. I'd love to see some topos if anyone has them....
