Hey. I am looking at going to college at Penn State in University Park next year, but local climbing is definately a factor as to where I end up. I was wondering if I could get the names and possibly information, or where I could get information on sport and bouldering areas within about 2 hours of University Park. The harder the climbs the better (ex. 5.12+ to mid and hard 5.13 would be optimal). Thanks, this is a HUGE help.

Check out, the PA guide section...as for really hard stuff around Penn State...
Bellfonte Quarry hosts some great hard stuff, Donation is quality, you could get to Sex Wall (most 5.12s+ in PA in about 2 hrs.) Seneca is only about 3.5 hrs., the Gunks about 4 hrs.
Mocanaqua has tons of stuff
And I've never been West of S.C. so their could be more out there as well...
Good Luck and God Bless
Randy

PS hopefully climbing isnt the ONLY factor to where you apply to...college isn't all climbing. I'm speaking as a freshman! Good Luck!

The PSU area hosts some of the best bouldering that I've ever seen. Hunters' is up there. Ask around, every climber knows about it. The Appalachian Ski and Outdoor shop will know exactly where it is. If bouldering is what you are looking for PSU is the place to go. The climbing is about 25 minutes away.
