Does anyone know if this area is still open? Also, if anyone has been there, is this a good area for a beginner to do bouldering?

Please let me know
Thanks
Sam

Actually just got some beta on it today. Apparently its a CCC owned spot, or at least the parking lot is, so you might get razzed if you aren't in the group and show up without having their sticker on your car or something.

that's all I heard at least.

Dude, the beta you got was bad. Someone must've got their 'boros confused. Roxboro has no CCC affiliation. The Asheboro boulderfiled, previously closed, is leased by the CCC. The Asheboro land owner requires CCC membership for bouldering. $25 gets you a season's crimpin and pimpin in Asheburl.

Dunno nuthin 'bout Roxboro.

Follow the directions on here and make sure you park on the side of the main road like it says. Keep walking the roadway till you get up to the top. Be respectful of the home owners.

Yes, Thank you guys. I'm definitely going to check this out. It's closer than anything else, until they open Knightdale (if it is in fact closed, still researching that). I need some easy stuff to get better.

Happy Climbing :)

sweet place, but watch out for hunters!

Apparently its used by a local hunting club for $$$ a year and deer season starts next week or the week after (October 20th-November 7th-ish). Didn't see any "no trespassing" signs or anything, just more info to add to the mystery.

last i visited it 1-2 months ago it was still open. the only issue is do not park on the private farm. park at the mail box and walk the gravel drive. Place is fun and frequented by locals on bikes and horses occasionally. ATV trails lead in from Hyco area and unknown.

Unimpressed Yes, the area is open. A few posts down there are some rules about using the area, simply, park on the side of the paved road, walk up the dirt road, by the pastures and houses bear to the right at the fork after the cable gate, and keep heading up.
Very good TR area to the left, follow the ridge away from the main dome. The Main dome is easy to set up clean TR. Good bouldering for beginners here, with flat landings and big holds. Check out the boulders behind the The Main dome.

UnsureACCESS ISSUES: The Back Boulderfield is posted NO Tresspassing and has signage. The rest of the area is open. The Corridor Area is well posted, it has a great boulder with some good problems. Down hilll from there, is, Big Overhang, technically, it is not posted. It is the best boulder problem at Roxboro.
Be careful, don get shot and enjoy.

Yesterday 10/30/2011 I was walking out and picked up some trash and one of the local landowners told me how much he appreciated that. Access is good. Park on the side of the paved road and walk in. Do NOT park any where on gravel road. Pack some trash out when you comeSmile

Smile Occasionally the jackasses, are out of their pens.
No I am serious, real jackasses! They are much like horses, keep walking, they won't bother you if you don't bother them.

I had one walk along with me all the way up to the last cattle crossing, which is as far as they can go. It had it's head right by mine as it walked along behind me. No problem though. There's always the dogs that will accompany you all the way up to the rock and entertain you as they climb some of the easier stuff. Surfcat, are you still working or did you give that up.

Charley, I have tried to give up work, but it seems to follow me wherever I go!
Money is good, but work sucks! LOL!
