I'm in Banff this weekend for a conference at the Banff Centre and I have Saturday afternoon off. I was thinking of bring my gear as my partner is with me and making use of the time. I am a noob trad climber and I've got about half a dozen trad climbs under my belt (5.3 to 5.7). I'd love to find some easy stuff to practice plugging gear. Any suggestions?

What about Lake Louise? Not super close to Banff, but the rock is a higher quality than typical rockies limestone (climbing on quartzite). I know there are a few easier gear lines there, you'd have to check a guide book for how many though.

It's probably too late in the year for Louise. Louise only gets 2 or 3 hours of direct sun, all in the late afternoon right now.... cooooold. A good place to go is Cowbell Crag near highwood pass. It's in the sport climbs book, but is mostly a trad area on conglomerant rock of questionable quality. It's south facing and sees sun all day. I was climbing there until early november last year.

Meh...it's not too cold at Louise yet. Bring a thermos, gloves and a toque and you'll be fine. It might snow there though.
