Horizon Roc is definitely the best place to go for indoor bouldering. I don't think that Allez-up has a bouledring area anyway... At Horizon Roc, they have this giant boulder they call the "monster", which is really nice for an indoor gym (see by yourself): http://www.horizonroc.com/...truction_2003_08.jpg

You might also want to check out Ile-St-Helene for some highballs bouldering... Cheers, Nik

Bouldering is quite better at HR... unfortunately! The problem with Horizon Rock is the f... rules. Men is the staff annoying... Can't do this, can't do that, please don't sneeze, please don't pick your nose or you're expelled... Anyways... still be best place to boulder... As for Val David, you can go there directly and bunch up with the crowd. You'll always find someone there. Check out the new section called "Les Hommes". Many nice problems from V0 to V9. You can purchases a TOPO at the information center in the center of the village for 3$. Drop me an email when you're in town. I might be heading there for a day during those dates. e_wire

Ian, not true anymore. I avoided HR for about 4 years because of the staff, but they seem to have relaxed quite a bit. This is especially true for the bouldering; they leave you alone. I think they concentrate more on the n00bs. Heck, you’re even allowed to sit on the mats now, which they wouldn’t let you do before. Unless, of course, you were part of “la gang.” Sure, some of the “guards” (staff) are still cliquish, but the same can be said for Allez-Up. I could give examples, but this is an open forum. I think it gets tired stating that one gym is better than the other; they’re completely different, is all. And, oh yeah, hippie, there are some really nice problems at Val-David.

Yeah... I guess your right about the debate on one gym versus the other. It's just every time I went at HR I got annoyed by some staff person so I got that really bad impression about the place... Never got any complaints about my belaying or security, just stupid stuff like sitting on the mats... What also ticked me off is the fact that you needed two separate rendez-vous for Top-Rope and Lead accreditation. Hell, I had to spend a whole day there just to get accredited! All of that is of course irrelevant for bouldering... So forget my b...ing. If you want to boulder, HR is THA place.

Don't bother with either of those places, go straight out to Val-David. Check out the Guide at www.drtopo.com, and like e_wire said you can get a guide for the new area at the Tourist station. I just ticked L'Express (V4/V5) on Eric Boulder at Les Hommes, on sunday. I recommend that one if it isn't too easy for you.

Sorry data118, I'll most probably be in Kamouraska during those dates. Unless weather dictates otherwise... Drop me a PM on Thursday and I'll let you know if I'm in the region or not. e_wire

Weather report for Kamou turned out to be not very good so I stayed in the region for the w-e. Went to Weir on Saturday and bouldering indoors at HR on Sunday. By the way, you still need to be accredited to boulder at HR. Something with insurances... The atmosphere is definitely more relax now that they've expended. I wouldn't g to say that the atmosphere was cool... but the staff was way less annoying then before. This being said, I still prefer climbing at A-Up. More music, more laidback... Ciao! e_wire
