how convenient! I'll be tripping through NS and NB August 15-21 or so. I grew up in dartmouth and have a bit of family to visit, but this is primarily a bouldering trip!!! please take my partner and i to dover island so i can make up for not being a climber when i lived in NS. I have already printed out the online guide, and am busy drooling on it until vacation time comes up.

I should be arriving in Halifax Aug.1st and heading up to Cape Breton sometime mid-week. Assuming my car makes it, I'll be bringing my own crash pad with me. I was assuming that I'd be going solo and just working stuff that I could pull off with a single pad and no spotter but maybe I'll give you guys a yell to see if/when/where you're going. FYI, I already PMed tal a while back asking about good areas to boulder. She gave me several suggestions. Can't wait to get out there.

In reply to: how convenient! I grew up in dartmouth and have a bit of family to visit, but this is primarily a bouldering trip!!! Hmmm same here fawkes... Only I'm going to be coming home sept 9 - sept 20th. I will be bring my crash pad with me too. I think I'm going to have to rent a car while I'm there unless the grand parents will let me use thier car. I should probably bring my tent and sleeping bag too but we'll see. 2 years ago I did some stuff on the cheesecake boulder in LOC with Sean and Todd of "Eastern Tide" so I don't think I could've had better people to randomly hook up with. Anyone else out there that wanna get together????

This is the site for beta on NS bouldering. The site admin also wrote the most commonly used guides to Dover Island and the Land of Confusion area. Stellar bouldering ... so great, I'd forgotten how much I loved going uuuuuup. ;)

ns.bouldering.ca is really the only site worth going on to find stuff on nova scotia bouldering. The LOC guide is not that extensive however and you can find better dover island guides. For boulderfest 2004 a full colour guide is available, somewhere, i can't remember the site. You just download and print, very nice. But other than that ns.couldering.ca is great.

The guide to the LOC that I'm talking about is a print guide ... not what is on the site. :) You used to be able to buy it at the MEC in Halifax ... I don't know whether Ghislain is still printing them. How was BoulderFest this year? Last year was great. :)

Um, I'm moving to Halifax from Vancouver on September 7. I've actually only done one bouldering route outdoors so I'm afraid I don't have crash pads, but I'd love to get outdoors before it gets too cold. Do you think I could meet up with any of you guys if you're going out in September?

Frequentflagger: bouldering is possible year round in NS. :D As long as you have a fleece beanie, you're set! ;) Seriously, though ... people do climb there all year long. It gets almost chilly, but that only increases friction. :D If you are going to school at Dalhousie, there is a small but fun rock gym in DalPlex (the athletic complex), otherwise, there are decent gyms in Bayer's Lake and Dartmouth. It ain't Vancouver though ... you will be disappointed initially. However, the people are great, the bouldering is fantastic, and the people are really, honestly, the best kind of people you'll find on this Earth.
