Hey all you northerners (I'm from the US!)...I was recently up in Vancouver and had the pleasure to shop at MEC, and they have some sweet deals with the exchange rate. Now, I'm looking to buy a pack and their price is over $100 (US) cheaper than anything I can buy here. However, they can't ship outside of Canada. Does anyone know any way around this restriction? Or am I just gonna have to hump it up to Canada to make the purhcase? Thanks!

Not all of their packs are shipping restricted. I assume the one you want is. In that case I figure the best thing to do is to get a canadian buddy to pick it up for you and mail it.

It's not so much that they "can't" ship, it's more of they "won't ship" to avoid undercutting US companies. Either go there and buy yourself or get some buddy in Canada to mail it to you. And I smell another "buy domestic" flame war in the works.....

In order to sell some products, MEC signs agreements with the manufacturers that says that they won't sell the product outside of Canada. This resulted from a bunch of retailers getting together and telling that they would stop buying from the manufacturer unless the manufacturer stopped selling to MEC. So the no sales outside Canada is a compromise to this situation. Still, you can't buy some products from MEC because the manufacturer won't sell to them. I would classify this more as "can't ship" rather than "won't ship". Either way, get a Canadian friend or come on up yourself.

I can ask my friend in MEC is that possible. I think is the best idea to give money somebody here you can trust and you will get your pack mailed to you.

Snapier.... What I would do is buy it and have it shipped to a buddy's place in Canada, then have them ship it to you... That way you don't have to give out your CC #.... It's more secure that way... Hell I don't even trust my own wife with my CC # let alone some friend ! I Have done something like this before but it was an item in the us and they did not ship to canada. Worked out great that way. H0unD

Save your cards! Whenever my wife is not happy to see me sorting gear and getting ready for the mountains, I give her my cards and say: "Why don't you just have break in one of the malls until I am back?" She never rejected that, so far! First time when she disagree with this offer I should start thinking to retire from climbing. I hope she won't change. She is great!

My Wife is great too sometimes she'll even come along for support and to watch me climb... I'm just saying that I would'nt give my CC # to her  Is all... She might max it out.... scratch that.... She would max it out. Worst of all I wouldn't get anything out of the deal. Well that's not true I'd get a big CC bill. H0unD
