would you recommend Slipstream over Rescue Dynamics? i've been looking into a week-long wilderness first aid course through RD for next spring. they've got the courses running in canmore and revelstoke this winter...no schedules are up for spring/summer '08 yet...

I havesnt done anything through RD so it would depend what you like, if you climb a lot in Jasper I would say go there but if not I like slipstream, they also have ACMG discount

Since you are in Alberta I would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine. The course is the best I have ever taken. I say this as some one that is in the industry and have taken courses from CPR, basic f.a. occupational courses and EMR for EMS services. Dave, the owner and instructor is a very experienced Paramedic. He is also a climber. Why learn from some one that has the same training as what they are teaching when you can learn from some one that is highly skilled? http://www.adventuremed.ca/home.htm I would also highly recommend the advanced 2 week course, same one the ACMG guides need. ...just to add...for the soft tissue injury portion of the course he brought in a physio therapist to co teach that day. Not sure if he still does that or not or if it's only for the advanced course. Shows the quality of instruction though.

Rescue Dynamics puts on great courses as well. Cyril (the owner) is an ACMG guide himself and very active in the climbing community around Jasper. I've done several Advanced WFA courses with him and they were always great.

ether way your not going to be doing surgery or something silly and for most things in the hills I think that you are looking at a bandaid or a chopper so aside from the larger recomended companys look at where you are going to be climbing, you may meet up with some people that are intreseted in the same area (ie) if you go to Jasper most times head to RD, if its further south and west look at Slipstream or Rocky
