Every weekend it's the same old thing... 1.get up ridiculously early and hop in the car with our packs ready to go 2.hit the Chevron on Boundry Rd. for gas, coffee, and breakfast 3.hop on the sea to sky for an hour and battle it out with scared tourist drivers, angry drivers, and of course the hoards of "power rangers" (crotch rocket freaks) 4.hope to hell you don't get stuck behind an accident and have to wait two hours 5.climb hard 6.see #3 & 4 For a change I'd like to camp up there and save a few hours of driving, perhaps to invest in sleeping or other 'recreational' activities. So where's some nice places to camp when you're bringing a dog? -

Ah, that brings back memories before the climber campground was taken over BC parks. What fun we had, just pull up, pitch a tent, throw your stuff all over the place. The good old days. I really don't know of a good place to camp now, maybe you can board out your dog.

how true! If not busy is what you are looking for, there is a new campground up by Alice lake. Turn left at the Alice Lake sign (Squamish Valley road) and follow it onto Paradise Valley road (I think thats the name of the road), go over a bridge and you will see it on the right side. I went there last weekend when all the other sites around were booked solid and there was hardly any one there. It's around $16 per night. The facilities are the cleanest I have ever seen for a camp ground. Cheers!

Hy... I've been to Squamish every week-end since 5 weeks. I know of a place ( probably a governmental property... so not legal) where you can camp for free!!! A few climbers have set-up their camp there. There's a river along the campsites and you can easily make fires. In other words, that's the perfect place. I think there was a camping there last year. Anyhow... Directions: - 99 North - turn left at the McDonald's - left at the following street ( or the second???) - You take Luggers Lane and turn left at the junction where the road becomes "unpaved". - Kepp going on till you see three small boulders on your left - Park your car and enjoy... Cheers!

THE NEW CAMPground that was talked about above is kinda, crapy the restrooms are nice, but your sleeping on rocks and theres nothing to to around there. but it would beat going back to van, you could always meet up with one of the locals and stay at a "climbing" house

Cheryl, About a mile past the Smoke Bluffs parking lot is "the Muni", the municiple (sic) campground, one of my favorite places to camp (though it is right on the road). Everytime I have camped there there has been at least one dog, I like that. The campgrounds are right next to the swimming pool and soccer fields, and has porta potties for bathrooms but not far away is the pool and it nicer bathrooms and across the parking lot a little farther is the shower house with plenty of hot water and not much of a line. It is not free, but I think the price has always been reasonable, and I'm not one to "poach" camping anyway at least not when I'd like to be comfortable. I hope this helps, Jeff
