unfortunately climbing in actual city limits of North Bay is pretty limited. The only real option is alongsinde highway 11 as it enters the bay. other wise its atleast a 45 min drive. ive climbed talon shoots and thats a pretty intesesting climb. i live in northbay so if you find any walls let me know.

along the highway? on the way up from T.O? between the turn off to lake shore Dr, and the turn to Ottawa? cause i did some bouldering there, it was pretty cool. so 45 min in what direction? there are no climbing gym's in north bay either, may a person should open one! lol

actually we do have one "climbing gym" its at the canadian forces base fitness and recreation center. every friday there are a few people that come out myself included. for whatever reason you cant find the cfb climbing facilities in any book or website so dont bother trying (thats the government for you). yea thats exactly where on the highway but i bouldered just before you enter north bay near the northbound exit for ottawa. i actually live 30 min out of town in trout creek and there are a few walls out here including a quarry that was blasted to make the trout creek bi pass. And if you drive up to mattawa apparently there are quite a few places to do some awsome bouldering and even some trad routes. bare in mind ive only been climbing for a few months so i havent had the opportunity or experienced partner to do anything but top roping so i havent really ventured anywhere but trout creek and north bay.

that's sounds cool. sounds like some cool trad routes are out there to find. do you mean trout lake road? where on the base is the climbing, is it just a wall or is it an actual gym? cave? overhang? auto belay, or do you need a partner?

well the climbing facilities are pretty limited in comparison with a big gym but imagination is key. there are seven different routes and there is an over hang. The 6th route is 33 feet tall with a slight incline. the 5th is 33ft tall with an actual right angle overhang, the 4th and 3rd are 24 feet tall and have a 4 foot 33 degree outward incline. the first... well the first consists of a carrot and a racecar... enough said. the seventh route is the most difficult. straight up but with some pretty difficult holds. yea you do need a partner to venture above the bouldering limit and there is no cave to speak of. as for its location it not very hard to get to. head up airport hill, do not take the carmichael exit, proceed past the air port, past the big plane and radar on ur right and you will come to a 4 way stop. turn right. you will see a gas station and subway on ur left, the rec center entrance (one is actually in subway) is just around the corner to the left. 5 bucks for a day pass so pretty acceptable.

I grew up in North Bay - I'll be coming home on the 23rd, anyone want to go climbing? I'll be leaving town on Boxing day and then I'll probably be back up on the 30th for New Years. I went bouldering in Callander 2 weeks ago. It was cold. Took us about 30min to brush out some holds. I'm game for hooking up and hitting the base though. I haven't been there in ages.

I'm very interested in rock climbing and I would love a partner to climb with whether it is sport or trad. Please let me know if anyone is interested.
