so i know that it rains a bunch in squamish.. but.. some friend and I are planning on coming up to squamish next week (sun-sat) and when i checked the weather they are calling for rain every day.. between 30 and 60% chance... and most of the days show rain/clouds all day rather than just afternoon thunderstorms.. what does this mean... can we still climb.. is it worth the drive still.. or do you feel it'll be pretty wet, and not worth the 17hr drive...? thanks for any help. nate

It means it'll rain some days, but not all of them. Thunderstorms are a rarity in that part of the world, and the rain is usually quite light. You can always head up to Whistler and hit the bike park for a day... 8^)

Last year there was a forecast for rain every day. It threatened every day, and sprinkeled on and off nearly every afternoon, but the climbing wasn't really affected. Things dried really fast. Also the MORNINGS were always great. If the weather looks questionable and you can climb 5.11, go sport climbing at Petrifying Wall. It's really incredible technical face climbing with typically 10 feet between bolts. August is the driest month, with half the precip (2 inches) of either July or Sept, and WAY less than any other time of year. Whistler is just like Vail, only not as glam. If you're into that, make it a latte' rest day. I couldn't stand it. Skaha, I've heard, is a fun place to go when squamish is really socked in.

In reply to: they are calling for rain every day.. between 30 and 60% chance... and most of the days show rain/clouds all day The forecast is always like that. It might not rain at all, and it might rain some. I say go for it. 30-60% is low for there.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info, but I climb in Squamish weekly and this has never let me down: http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/cities/can/pages/CABC0279.htm

In reply to: so i know that it rains a bunch in squamish.. Not this year! 30-60% is "go for it," especially if you have a whole week. Take care!

If it rains then head towards Whistler about 20 min out of Squamish and you find checkamuss(spelling incorrect?). It's all sports but fun for them rainy days for sure. You can find 2 x 5.10 - 1 x 5.8 and a lot of 5.11 to 5 12's and if your realy strong a very cool roof 5.13(d?)
