think Montreal is not the perfect place for climbing...I mean, there's few places but you absolutely need a car to get there cause it's not very close. But quebec city...hummmm...nice! Boulder to trad, mixed to ice, 5.2 to 5.14 you have everythings. There's more than 15 sites to climb. For some of them you only need to walk from downtown for 5 minutes and it's a other world! Quebec city is called by international ice climber as the "ice country", there's more than 10 places around. You can even get there by bus! And that's without the 2 climbing gym near. One of them have a fresh new boulder room! There's a lot of outdoor sport possible too...thinks about kayak, hiking, skiing..etc. Of course Quebec city is smaller than Montreal but you feel really close and comfy. You'll meet easily new climbers for sure! If your interested, email me or so, I could help you or give you a tour someday!

Unless you're trying to stay out of the United States, which if you're gonna leave at lesat go someplace with better climbing, monteral is great. You're only two hours from the Adirondacks, close to Vermont and New Hampshire, I think Algonquin Prov. Park has some pretty decent climbing too.

Montreal is a great place for a climber. You are within quick driving distance of many great areas, as was mentioned above. You will also find that Montreal is home to many great climbing gyms, such as Allez-Up. Check out this link to see places you might choose to easily access from the Montreal area. http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/listState.php?CountryStateID=166

In reply to: I think Algonquin Prov. Park has some pretty decent climbing too. Algonquin Provincial Park is in the province of Ontario, not Quebec ... it is a solid 4 hour drive north of Toronto, which is a 5 hour drive west of Montreal. It is also pretty flat, and requires a canoe for access to the majority of the park. Given that Montreal is a short drive from the mountains, I don't think that a 10 hour drive away from them is quite worth it. :D
