Hey, I'm a moderate ability climber leading sport at 5.9 and following 5.10, and learning to lead trad. I'm moving to Orono Maine in late May and am looking for people to show me the area and to climb with! Hope to hear from anyone!

I work at a camp in Maine and will be there from late May to mid August. I looked up Orono in my atlas. The closest climbing from there that I know of would be on Mt. Desert Island, where Acadia National Park is. I believe that the climbing there is mostly top rope. It is on the cliffs above the water. You lower down from the top and climb up. There are several outfitters on the island where you could get info. There are some trad routes on Mt. Katahdin that I would like to get to this summer. I have hiked it before and it is an awesome place. The only sport place that I know of up in that part of the country is Rumney. It is in the west part of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. This would be quite a trek, but I'm sure that it would be worth it. I have some time off when I first get there and a few more days during camp. I would love to get together and climb some time. I will try to get more info about some sport climbs in Maine, but all I know about right now is trad. I am working on building a rack to take up with me this summer so that I can work on doing some easy trad. Maybe I could take a weekend to go to Mt. Desert Island with you and pull on some oceanside rock. I'll get in touch with you later.

Climbing in Acadia NP is not just top rope. There is some nice trad climbing as well. You should contact one of the 2 climbing guide services there to get more information.
Good luck

Hey everyone,

Currently, I live in Richmond, VA but will be moving to Maine this fall for graduate school. I will also be living in Orono. So, if anyone will be needing a partner for next school year, let me know. Gwen
