Hi everyone, I have being climbing indoors for a while now and I am really bored with it. I want to go out and do some climbing I don't really know good places in the Chicago area and was wondering if anyone knows of places. I would like to tag along with a group that has room for one more if possible. I am down to earth and good to get along with and don't really have a preference in cllimbing, I just want to climb...

Better chances of getting a helpful reply if you change the title to reflect the area. For Example: Chicago area climbers!

We're in Rockford and tend to go to Devil's Lake almost every weekend, some weekdays. Maybe we could arrange to meet somewhere and carpool.

You have better chances of getting a reply from the MidWest partner forum. I'm moving your thread there. -F

Let's get out of the city and head to devils head once it warms up. I've only been camping there but I'll be climbing there this summer for sure. I don't drive though. Yes it's about 2.5-3 hours and worth it IMO

There's a cadre of us in the 'burbs straight north of the city up 94 (Libertyville, Gurnee, Grayslake) who climb indoors at various gyms and go outdoors nearly every weekend during the season. Some of us have been climbing for a decade or longer, some for 8 months. We're happy to welcome newcomers.

Well, if you would like to meet shrug7 and I, we'll be at the libertyville sports complex about 9am on Saturday. Also, there's a tentative plan to go with edger11 and his girlfriend (perhaps others) to Vertical Endeavors on Sunday. You're more than welcome to join us and meet a couple people.

Hey Mia, The Libertyville sports complex has a nice group of climbers. I'll be there Saturday morning (tomorrow) at 8:00 ish. The people that climb there go on quite a few outdoor trips and are very cool to new comers! Reese

Hey, that's what I just said. So, it looks like I can pitch that tent for you in the dark next weekend. "Tent Bitch" was never a moniker I thought i'd take, but somebody has to do it right, huh? I might ever wear Pranas while I do it Edit: "Cool to newcomers"? Are you kidding me? We're *sharks*! The last newcomer that came around had to be hauled off to an institution in chains, gibbering and slobbering all over himself. He couldn't handle the pressure. Edit #2: I've been instructed to tell everyone in this thread that we are normal, white bread suburbanites who have not the least bit of character, quality of humor, or rowdiness. I was not, under any circumstances, instructed to use the phrase "malodorous vegetables of disesteem". Oh crap, I blew our cover guys! Someone else will have to fit the role of smiling mannequin liaison to the outside world.

Mia, The regulars at the LBV sport complex are actually a fairly normal bunch. My wife and I and along with Reese, Dave (aka Dripdry) and Franck and a few others are usally there on the weekends if we can't get outdoors (or VE) We are also there after work/school usually Tuesday and Thursday after 7 till...9-930. Sometimes Wednesday If you want to climb outside of the gyms "open hours (after 7pm)" they require a belay certification. Give them a call and I believe the guys name is Matt. He does them Wednesday evenings and Sundays (I think...it's been a while). 847-367-1502 We are planning on a number of trips to Southern Illinois and Wisconsin and maybe the RRG this year. Let me know if you have any other questions. Welcome to climbing in northern Illinois

VE is down in Warrenville/Naperville. We usually car pool to save on gas. Never been to the one out in Crystal Lake. But I have heard good things.

I actually spoke to someone in the North Wall in Cristal Lake. They have a class there on Sats and it's more likely that I'll get it there. Are you climbing LSC this Sat?
