Hey y'all,

Here's the deal: I have three weeks between when school lets out and when I move into my new place in Austin, and I'm going to Cincinnati to visit my mom. Anyone in the area know any good places to climb around there/want to hook up sometime between May 14 and June 2? Drop me a line!

Peace,
Cat

yea man you should really hit up Red River Gorge.

if your not up for the drive there are two gyms in cincinnati.
Rock-Quest which is in sharonville
and Climb-Time which is in blue ash

also you might be able to climb at university of cincinnati's new rock wall.

I'm originally from cincy and I haven't found anywhere worth your time to climb outside thats not the Red. I heard there is some stuff in Yellow Springs, Ohio which is maybe an hour from cincy... but I'd say go to the Red.

The "Yellow Springs" site is probably John Bryan State Park, which has about 20 top-rope routes of about 30 feet high each. You have to register and may only climb developed routes. Climbing was formerly allowed at nearby Clifton Gorge.

Along with the two gyms, Climb Time and Rockquest, there are also climbing walls at the University of Cincinnati and Miami University.

The Red River Gorge is highly recomended.

So far, no one has mentioned the popular Eden Park Reservior Wall, a 100-year old manmade stone wall 30 feet high and 400 feet long.

PM me if you need a partner.

Yeah, Eden park is decent for a quick pump if you don't want to pay $14 to climb at Rockquest. Climbtime is the bouldering gym - don't bother going to RQ for bouldering, and don't go to CT for roped climbing.

There are a few other areas around that you can climb at, but I'd agree that if you can make the 2+ hour drive to the Red, then go to Miguels down there and try to snag a partner. All the other areas around Cincinnati (Paint Creek, the new Oakes Reserve thing, John Bryan, etc.) are only really for if the timing forces you to go there, or if you want to get some limestone experience.

John Byran also gets pretty busy on weekends considering you have to use their designated sites. Paint Creek state park has some climbing in the spillway and in the woods. Also, Hocking Hills on just east of Columbus Ohio is a good place to climb. There is a waterfall back in the hollow with 30 to 120 cliffs with all natural anchors....
