I'm gonna be in Chicago the week after Labor Day and was interested in checking out Devil's Lake during the week (Sept 2-5). I'll be bring my gear (& beer  ) so all I need is a partner and maybe some beta (although I did just but the Devil's Lake guidebook). If anyone is interested in any or all of those days let me know and we can hook up. Also, someone told me you could find partners on the CCC trailhead near the group camping area. Is this accurate? If so, is it feasible on a weekday (even after a holiday weekend)? I'm excited to check out the climbing possibilities in the midwest. I grew up in Chicago but only started climbing once I moved to So Cal. I've been fortunate enough to climb on some outstanding rock (JTree, Tahquitz, Yose, Red Rocks, etc..) but checking out a place so close (relatively speaking) to my hometown is exciting. Any info would be greatly appreciated and if anyone is free those days definitely hit me up :D

You can find partners on the CCC trail but meeting up with peeps on this site is best. Are you sure you can't make it down here for Labor Day weekend? A bunch of us are going to Red River Gorge in Kentucky.

I'd love to check out the Red but I've got family plans that weekend (the purpose of my visit). How's the traffic at DL on weekdays? Do you think I can find people to climb with during the week?

It'll definitely be slower, but there shoudl still be people running around the East Bluff. More-so in the afternoon versus the morning. It could be rather sketchy though, and I would suggest trying to work something out on here then just showing up and hoping for a partner.. considering it's a weekday and all. Good luck with it though..

You shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to climb with...just be ready to get a thorough spanking!!! If you've done most of your climbing on California granite and Nevada sandstone you're in for a rude shock when you jump on that glass-like Wisconsin quartzite and those stiff Devil's Lake grades!!!
