I have an interview with a firm in Eau Claire WI but I know very little about that part of the state. I currently live in Duluth MN and was hoping people here could fill me in a bit about the Eau Claire area, specifically: 1. Any indoor gyms? 2. Hows the city for cost of living? 3. What do you think of the area? 4. Any hiking / backpcking in the area? 5. How's the social scene (aka stuff to do other than boozin') I know that Eau Claire won't have the concentration of climbing and backpacking that Duluth MN has but there is still some good climbing within a couple hours of the city. I appreciate any help you guys and gals can give!

i've been to Eau Claire a few times when I use to work for MENDARDS who owns that city. The only ROCK CLIMBING Gym is at the UW: http://www.uwec.edu/Recreation/activities/climbingwall/index.htm There is some STATE FOREST to the south near Black River Falls. You can do some Backpacking, lots of hiking, mountain biking, snow shoeing, XX-skiing. Probably about 2hours South is Devils Lake - which is World Class Climbing. The City has typically everything a small/medium size city has. I would say "SOME" of the people up there a little bit more "redneckish" - If you HUNT and FISH you would probably fit in. There is a college there, so you will have the college bars and whatever comes with that. There aren't a LOT of Indoor climbing gyms in Wisconsin I've notice. I have one about 45mins from me. The next available one is 2 hours+ away. Enjoy!
