Well if you can make it to Aurora you might want to concider going just alittle further to Warrenville. There is a great gym called Life Time Fitness and inside this gym there is a climbing gym called Vertical Endeavors which is where I climb. So I guess in a round about way if you can make it to Warrenville I woiuld be happy to climb with you as long as you dont mind coaching a rookie? Let me know? Bryan

If you are going to be in Illinois, you have to make a trip down to Upper Limits in Bloomington. You'll never want to climb at another gym! They have 20,000 square feet of climbing area with routes reaching 110 feet!!!! Check out pics on the web at www.upperlimits.com.

Quote: You'll never want to climb at another gym That is an opinion. My take on it: It was a nice place to go for the hangdog comp. But a membership there isn't worth while. Routes I climbed in November were still up in May when I left ISU for home. If you're a 5.9 climber, the gym is allright. But if you're pushing 11s easy, and have to work 12s, a few trips and you'll not need to go back. If they changed their routes much more it would be better. But climbing the same 5.9 warmup for 8 months is VERY boring. Also, the 20,000 sq. feet is a bit misguiding. There are 6 silo rooms, and about 8 ropes in each silo. Half of the sq.footage of each silo doesn't really get used because of the spacing between the routes. Then there is a 2,000+ woodie room, with some overhaning walls and stuff (nice ) but the texture just consumes the rubber. BTW...the lighting is VERY dim. So, overall, it is not a gym to spend the rest of your life at. It is MOST definatly worth checking out if you're in the area as it does offer the highest indoor climbing walls in Illinois, a 110 foot outdoor wall (two ropes) and if you go there in the dead of Winter, the Ice climbing might just be around. Hit it up, give it a try. Nice way to spend $10.

hit Vertical Reality in Aurora. take 88 east to rt 31, hang a right onto 31, then a right (about 10minutes later) at Prarie St. turn into the Lugi's pizza parking lot and walk to the back of the store. they have about 40 top ropes, a bunch of leads, and a bouldering area. costs like $10, $8 student (NIU???), and $6 pro some other gyms are: The North Wall in Crystal Lake (good place) Indoor Summits in Naperville (not a big fan) Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville (hate it...but just a personal opinion, and i am biased) if you need directions or any other info drop me a line....you'll love VR, its a great place with great climbs, and its the closest one to you (as far as I know!) good luck marc

Upper Limits is an awsome place to check out. granted the climb is maybe only a 5.9, 5.10 max, but the variety they offer is amazing. They have walls, silos, artificial waterfalls (completley awsome! ), and huge repells!! ~~Eric
