I posted this on your other thread: climbforchrist we do have some climbing here and a gym, there is a group of us that climb together, not always all at once so we have smaller groups that go different places on different days. We post our plans in a monthly thread like "July climbing in Minnesota" anyone is welcome to come. here is the link for the July thread: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34588 and here is August: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36589 Welcome to Minnesota BTW duskerhu and I managed to climb outdoors at least once a month through this past winter Les Message me if you have any questions.

Just thought I'd warn ya, Les is kind of strange. He will bring you out to the crag at NIGHT and 4 get the batteries to his head lamp. And if you want trouble beware of his daughter! By the time you get back to your campsite she will have pissed off the local mountie, sheriff, patrol officer and half of the locals! But he does build good anchors, belays well and climbs pretty darn good for a big guy :D hahahahaha wait a minute, that all sounds like fun 2 me, can I come 2? Matt sgltkmnd@charter.net

Hey, it's another UMN to-be student! The U of M runs a climbing wall in the St. Paul Gym that's dirt cheap ($15 for 15 weeks) and there's really cool bunch of climbers there. It's a small setup, about a half dozen topropes over varied wall steepness (slab to roof) and a cool bouldering wall. UMN Climbing Club meets there during the week, we're a fun bunch if I say so my self. We often head out to the crags in the spring and fall, there's quite alot to climb around here. If you're looking for ice climbing, there's a few people at the U that do that too (for example, me). There's tons of ice climbing to be had not only around the U campus and metro area but within a few hours drive of Mpls. A weekend trip can get you to some long multi-pitch stuff. Feel free to PM me if you want more info about UMN climbing. Hope you like the U!

Oh one more thing I might add, I know St. Cloud seems like a bit of a haul from Minneapolis. But in the chilly months everyone meets at my place to play in my 170 sqf bouldering cave. I have like 1000 holds heaters and tunes. Sunday nights it's useally come when you can and stay untill midnightish. Always bring your harness cause I have a few little suprises in the area! Matt

Abandon your scholarship and go somewhere else with more climbing! Don't ever visit Farmington! Consider this your warning! I have only you're best interest in mind! Seriously, though. Sorry about your future alpine deprivation, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of our quality (NOT quantity) climbing here in MN. Do you boulder? If so, I may see you at Taylors. Graison

There are a few places near campus that will be good... definately join the gym at the St. Paul campus, a friend of mine jumped several grades by consistantly working out there. Midwest Mountaineering has a decent bouldering cave just off of the campus that is also great for daily workouts. It shouldn't be too hard to find people that will do top rope and sport with you at the local areas. If you want to do Ice or train for alpine send me a message I am looking for a partner.
