i've never been to this park, so i'm kinda curious if anybody can give me the general 'vibe' on the place, the climbing, the camping, ect. i've been too devils lake several times now, and well, the climbing is good, but short, the camping kinda stinks and the crowds SUUUUUUUCK. if this place had climbing of comprable to even slightly less quality than devils lake, but had low crowds and nice camping i would be thrilled. or maybe you can suggest another place for the weekend outings.

It is mostly a choss pile, not really worth a trip unless your in the area. Wild Iowa is a much better area if you end up in that region. It is a fairly scenic area, so if you were to go there to camp with the family or something it would be ok.

If you can sport climb 5.10 amd 5.11, drive 3-4 hours to Eastern Iowa. Indian Bluffs has a few years (climbing season is only about 9 months max) worth of fun sport routes. There are also some nice trad lines, but I don't trad. The 15 minute hike in means you will not see any other climbers there. I'm not kidding, everyone climbs at Pictured Rocks in Iowa because it's roadside. I know Iowa isn't too exciting, but for a 3 hour drive you can beat yourself up on some very nice rock. If you are interested drop me a P.M. However, I will not answer for at least a week, because I leave for Joe's Valley and Triassic in about 15 hours.

Wild Iowa isn't really that bad of a place. If you take it for what it is, a crag in Iowa, then you'll have fun. Its not world class but where else in the Nothern Mid-west can you pull on steep limestone pockets?
