Hi, this is my first post. I am in the Kansas City area and go to an indoor climbing gym 3 days a week and am looking for future outdoor routes in Missouri and Arkansas. I was raised in Kansas, lived in Arizona for 4 years after College and then moved back to the Kansas City area 5 years ago. I am an Eagle Scout, 2 times to Philmont, New Mexico and once to boundary waters in Canada. My greatest adventure to date was in 1998 when I hiked the CDT from Stoney Pass to Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado with my college roommate. The journey took 11 days, total trip was 15 days. Anyway I will be reading a lot here to catch up, I already found some things to do around KC from the routes section, that is cool and I am excited to have a place to get info and share info. - Steve Overland Park, KS

I'll sum up... There is a Beginner FAQ that says "don't post hi welcome" posts. but.... i'm 99.9999% sure that's just for the Beginners forum, not location specific. But with that said... finding a place to climb and people to climb with in the flatlands can be a bitch. Welcome to rockclimbing.com

Thanks. I figured my first post I should introduce myself since the midwest section would be my section to get to know the other members. I use a lot of forums for my business and I know each one has there own quirks and taboos, but I still thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself and give some personal info rather than just just in out of nowhere. There are some great guys at the climbing gym I go to and they are already talking about a future trip to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch down in Arkansas. I have been down to the Buffalo River area in Arkansas when I was in the Scouts back in the 80's and I remember some really high cliffs down there. I used the Routes section on this forum and found a nice bouldering area in my city near the city zoo and the only cliffs to climb with ropes in Kansas City - Cliff Drive. I will visit both areas soon. Thanks for replying and saying hi. Kind Regards, Steve

HCR is supposed to be awesome, and that's coming from my friends who drive there from Chicago. You gotta figure if they're driving 10 hours, it's worth the trip, since the Red is only 7 hours from here. I've heard HCR has lots of moderate sport climbing, so it'd be a great place to 'learn the ropes.' Just be sure to go with people who know what they're doing (e.g. your gym buddies) *Edit: spelling

Hi, I found a book called "Horseshoe Canyon Rock" it is a small paperback that has all the contact info, local info, and routes with photos and drawings. It would have to be a group trip with experienced climbers, I am around a 3 hours drive from the canyon.
