I recorded a conference last week with my pc webcam (Manycam) and shut my laptop at the end, forgetting to press "stop rec.". A few hours later I reopened my laptop and shut it down. Next day I find that I have 500mb of unviewable .avi file. Windows media, quicktime, VLC, Blaze, avidemux, and manycam won't read or even recognize the damn file. I can't figure out how to get access at least to some frame shots or audio to prove I was recording the conference in the first place (doesn't even show a preview image). Any ideas?? Somebody? I'm in pretty deep shit and would be sincerely grateful for some help.

There is a very good chance that the file is f***ed, but you can try to repair it (depending on the Manycam codec). I have been able to repair broken videos to a greater or lesser degree in the past using a repair program (don't remember which off the top of my head). You could try something like this: http://divxrepair.sourceforge.net/
