I am not sure how many users on this site have advanced degrees (thus presumably being fairly well educated and able to write well), but I personally tend to be critical of others' writing. Mr. Stannard, please kindly defend your own words and quell these detractors yourself. It is the Preferred Way Things Are Done on this here electronic typing box, as Dingus will atest I am sure. And enjoy whatever reactions you manage to stir up, as that is the point of being here in the first place. I must say, that to insult John Stannard intentionally shows lack of respect for a man who has earned it. As for everyone jumping to his defense, I agree with the earlier poster. John, if you are listening, do you really give two shits for what some anonymous POS on the internet said about a post he didn't know was written by you? I think not. I have not met many well repected hardmen who would feel much of a sting based on said comments.
WJCA, that was the most half-assed apology I've ever heard. I tend to be fairly critical of other people's apologies, having made so many myself. Having an advanced degree is not a pre-requisite to showing class, repect, or manners.

Actually, I've noticed the opposite, namely that our more venerable members are treated with a high degree of respect by the vast majority of users. Granted, that respect often comes in the form of sarcastic ribbing, but the vibe I almost always get is good natured. Would you site an example to support your contention?
Personally, I think this is one of most level, if unforgiving, playing fields I've ever seen. But then again, I hover comfortably somewhere between whippersnapper and geezer. :)
