An Introduction

Can't Post

Hey :)

I'm new to the forum and this seemed like a good place to try and briefly introduce myself.

My name is James and I've been climbing since december of 2010. For the most part, I only boulder as the gym I attend only has bouldering (The Circuit in Portland OR.). I fell in love with the sport in my first month and quickly picked up a years membership. I have gone 3 or 4 times a week almost without fail since.

I am terrified of heights, but am getting a little bit better about controlling and dealing with my fear every time I climb. The fear of heights is actually a big reason I started climbing.

My athletic background is in track and field. I ran in college and now coach at a local high school and college.

I look forward to becoming an educated member of this community. :)

Take Care
James

Portland OR? I have the vague notion that you're within day/weekend tripping distance of Smitch Rock (like 3 hours away or something?) and Leavenworth (4/5 hours?). I haven't been, but I hear Smith Rock is rad. It's sport climbing, so it's quite a bit taller then bouldering so you are gunna have to get over the heights thing( you'd be surprised how many climbers used to be scared of heights and, given the right position, sometimes find they still are...)if you want to climb there. But I guess you gotta get over it some time.

Leavenworth is just some of the sickest bouldering I've done. I just love the features there, and the rock is fantastic. The town is a little bit of an eye opener, but don't let that stop you from going.

Welcome to the sport and to RC.com. This place is pretty harsh somemost of the time.

Please avoid reply to 7 year old threads, I don't know why but there has been a sudden wave of people doing that later and it is pissing me off.

Anyways, yeah. [harsh first timer welcome] STFU n00bzor! Yore gunna die! Eat t3h pwnbr34d!!![/harsh welcome]

Thanks,

You're right i'm not far from either of those places. I bought a harness and my friends have helped me out with a bit of top roping to help me adjust. it's getting easier but after i pass the 30' mark i tend to over grip and burn out. definitely something i want to get over.

I don't know if work will let me get away this season to do much outdoor. i just started a business and that seems to need me here a lot. which is fine.

but next year i'll definitely be out as much as possible.

thanks again for the warm welcome. :)

That's perfectly fine. haha the blog is unrelated to climbing, so i'm not going to push that or spam people asking for readers. This isn't the place for that.

and the blog i've started for climbing is more personal and not really something I intend to spam other people with.

Twitter is... Twitter. The end.

Thanks for the heads up though.

One of the best climbers I know is afraid of heights. It's those fears that force you to focus. Fear of falling for example helps keep you focus at the task at hand.

How do first-timers so often find their way into the campground so quickly?
