I am bored and have a few hours to kill before i will get out and freeze my fingers off on the subzero rock. And since i had to sell my trusty '94 Golf station wagon off to africa, due to way too much rust to be worth repairing, i am browsing the car sites for a new vehicle. I probably will have to buy something older anyways, simply due to monetary reasons, but damn, all those new cars are ugly and boring. All boring, flat and aerodynamic, and since the optimal form would look the same for all manufacturers, they add all kinds of bulges and develope strange window forms, so that you cant see anything in the car. I have driven new cars where i had to remove the rearview mirror, since that was placed so, that i simply could not see what was coming out of roads from the right. And that you cant reverse a car without those electronic distance warning thingies is already the norm, but more and more you also need them for the front, since you have no idea where that stupid car might end. so i realised none of my dream cars is newer than the 90s (if you dont count some sports cars, that where never meant to be usefull in the first place, and the Lancia thesis). Also if you ignore said sports cars, they are almost all (except for two) "normal" cars, i.e. cars that you could use for everyday use (if you ignore the fact that some of them would be expensive rarities). So heres my dreams:
Citroen DS, the goddess. Citroens engineering madness, combined with an absolutely timeless styling. Unfortunately they are very complicated (hydropneumatic suspension ...) and now quite hard and expensive to get, so that will probably stay a dream I loved this car, since i first saw it in a Luis de Funes movie. Staying with citroen, there is also the SM
Its a sports car, and one that failed, due to technical problems, but that look! Alone the fact they they put the front lincense plate under a glass cover, integrated with the lights would make this car worth owning. I love citroens retro futuristic looks. And then there is probably the last "real" citroen, the CX. Its outter looks are not that special, compared with the DS or SM, but that dashboard (in the first series):
Fucking Star Wars X-wing style, in a car, without any stupid "pimp my ride" bullshit! They are hard to get in southern germany, but they could be in the affordable range ... Tempting... Speaking of southern germany:
The Mercedes-Benz W123 is an absolutely magnificent car! Also the station wagon is really practical, and since Mercedes was the pioneer of about any safety measure you can find in nowadays cars, the W123 is still quite safe. Unfortunately the rusty menace struck most of them, and so getting a good one nowadays is hard and/or expensive. But its successor, the W124 is more in my reach, and i really think about buing one of those.
Unfortunately the station wagon does not look to good. Normally i dont care for looks too much in a car that i want to actually use, But the forms of the sedan are just absolutely perfect Just look at that rear:
(and i am not even an ass man ...) And there is even an impractical american car that made it on my list:
The Dodge Charger, but only the version with undivided grille and the hidden headlights. Utterly useless, and technically from the medieval times, but this agressive and distinctive front! And then there is finally something rather new, and probably possible to get:
The lancia thesis Most would say "ugly!", and yes, they are probably right, but the fact alone that this is a modern car, that managed to look unlike any other car, makes this thing great. And combine that with lancias history of lunacy and you have a possible classic. so what do you dream about? qwert

My want to have car at the moment: BMW 330 xd touring. however, just a bit steep on the price. A Fiat 500 Abarth would make for a nice second car. My drive atm is a 2001 Audi A3 1.9 TDI 5 door. Used to be my dream car and I am still happy with it. (the only thing really broken is the volume control on the radio... its either off, Extremly loud or in the power on setting, which is adjusted to cruising speed - so too loud in the city, too quiet on the freeway). However with over 220'000 km its starting to be a gamble... oh, and if we remove the usability and budget restrictions:
and the old and new mercedes with gullwings. or an old S.. Oh and go for the Merc W124. Almost indestructible

My dream car is the one I'm driving; one that is paid for and gets me to and from work (with heated leather seats).

Please, we all know you take the bus to work and those 'heated leather seats' is just the lap of the crack whore you're sitting on. Don't you dare talk trash about Sheila. She is one hell of a lady. Okay, lady may be a stretch, but she is cozy. And she gives great massages.

I was very close to having my dream car, but then it didn't work out :( I had a 1961 Chrysler Newport that I bought on Ebay, picked up in Tennessee and then drove back to CA. Averaged 22mpg on the way back. I'll never understand how modern cars in the US haven't doubled that number. For what it's worth here's my one and only dream:
1961 Chrysler 300G hemi with dual carbs, maybe the convertible, maybe not, but definitely with the hifi 45 rpm record player.
And as for cool dashboards it doesn't get better than Buck Rodgers with a push button transmission:
Here's a good write up for anyone who cares: http://www.conceptcarz.com/...6/Chrysler-300G.aspx

Found a new car to add to my list: The Aston Martin Lagonda
Actually theres quite a handfull used ones to be had in Germany, but unfortunately they start at around 20000€ and get to 5 times as much rather quickly. Oh, and heres a video of one in action: http://www.youtube.com/...&feature=related qwert
