I recently received a bottle of Blanton's Single Barrel as a thank you from a client. It's a good bit outside of my normal price range (Its like $60+ here in TN), but very tasty and extremely smooth. My wife warned me not to get too used to drinking it because I won't be able to afford to replace it once its gone. But if you're looking to treat yourself, this is a pretty good choice.

That's really funny, cuz those three bottles in the background are the last 3 bourbons I've bought. The Van W was OK, nothing special, but comparable to the Creek. I bought it when I couldn't find the batch of Pappy Van W I bought a year or two earlier (it may have been the 15 YO, I'm not sure), which was really good. Of those three, I'm thinking I prefer the Mark. Given that as a taste point-of-reference, how does this $60 treat compare?

That's sort of like saying "I've had the Anchor Steam and the Uinta, but I think I prefer the Yuengling." Don't spend the $60. I personally would have likely never bought the bottle myself, its out of my price range. Luckily I got it as a gift. Woodford Reserve would be a good one to go for. Its in the $30 range.

A big part of the problem is that I never have these to taste side-by-side. So it's what I'm drinking now vs what I remember from a year or more ago. Clearly not optimum, but the Mrs wouldn't be too happy if I brought home 4-6 bottles at once. Thanks for the tip re. Woodford.

I just opened a bottle of Willett 7 year old. Its pretty damned good. $42 is right at the top of the range that I'll pay myself for a bottle, though.

I assume you guys drink whiskey neat or on the rocks? I have seen people adding a little drop of water to accentuate the flavour. But I have never been able to drink any spirit like that. I've had some brandy that was warmed once, that wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't have been able to have more than a tot. How do you do it? It can't really that nice? Whiskey and lemonade is nice though. But for the purests it is usually blasphemy.

A coworker once noticed that I drink my coffee black. He said "I bet you drink your whiskey neat also."

I drink my coffee black. I suppose it's like eating olives and drinking coffee black, it's an acquired taste. But, I really don't have the stomach for spirits, I cannot see how one could acquire the taste.

This was my last bottle... Dimple.. scored it through Duty Free NZ to aussie, $66au I think. And yes drank the whole thing on the rocks, coz I was to lazy to get coke. Had to drink it all by myself in three weeks (as couldnt take it further on my travels)
Great taste, worth every cent. Not strong, not dull. Has a bit of a kick that doesn't leave any nasty after taste. This is me and my flatmates effort over eight months... some cheap stuff, some expensive stuff but a worthy effort...

An expensive bottle has a much different taste to say a cheap vodka or something with that burning taste. Its just a nip... not even a sip... just a kiss on the lips. Or in shots if your that way inclined but now in my older years, I'm not in as much hurry to finish it. Their are some angry whiskeys (Booker Noels) and some really smooth ones that you dont even notice (Johnny Gold)

I had the blue just to taste what it was like, would have been better with lemonade. The gold too. Edit: I kind of think people will be calling Blasphemy... But I also think they secretly wish they could mix theirs with lemonade too.

You may as well be posting pictures of some guy's jogger nipple in my Breasts thread. If you're a guy, you just lost half of your man points. If you're a chick, please post a picture so we can decide if you're hot enough to stick around and be tolerated.
