Where do you guys draw the line as to what is music and what is just noise? I don't think that this is music. I mean I like a lot of 16bit's stuff... But WTF is this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UexCBJF_n-4 But then my dad said that this didn't count as music, either. I think it does (song proper starts at 0:40). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Waqn0jBG58 But then one of my friends said that nothing played on the harmonica counts as music, and another said that straight singing wasn't music because there was no instruments. Anyways, yeah. Discuss, or whatever.

Bagpipes are close to the line. I just waffle about which side they fall on.

I'm gonna jump and probably crash. (disclaimer this is opinion not fact) Music is a collection of sounds. Go primal, tapping sticks on rocks became music. People have made music out of the sounds on the street, sound s being operative they collected many sounds to put them together. Some argue rap is not group or band worthy due to not have instruments but mixing boards and sampling. In those two u tube links , wouldn't the chain saw and the machine gun be the instrument? I judge a good singers voice be how you can hear the music in their voice without instruments to back it up. Music is an art form, and we all know art is different to everyone and really cant be judged in a collective. Noise can be turned into music, is where I'm going...

Anything that you play or sing is noise. But it's OK if you sing solo. So low I can't hear you.

Bah bah tshhhh What is the difference between a banjo and a harmonica? A harmonica only sucks every other note.

Many people hated Beethovens music back in his day. One could argue that he was the original minimalist. The type of music you like is very much influenced by the type of music you've been exposed to. Conversely, and as disk jokeys have known full well since the early 50's, if you repeatedly listen to a song you hate, your brain will grow to tolerate and eventually like it. Look it up if you don't believe me. Makes you think twice about letting your daughter play bieber on those long car trips huh?

How about some Autechre? This is one of their more musical pieces. Some have little or no repetition and sound more like a they were made a based on random number generator algorithms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4ZwTUUue1w

16 bit's remix of Little Dragon's Twice is the only track of the 16bit discography that makes it to my stereo. http://www.youtube.com/...d-U&feature=fvsr What is music and what is noise all seems so subjective. It's harder just making the distinction of what I like to hear - be it labeled noise or music. If I like it, I'll give it time on my stereo... Autechre is pretty cool, but I feel most of his good stuff was some years back. this month I'm all over Jon Hopkins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_5NJfSgE0s I can't seem to stay away from the pretty. Thanks for the share! LS
