Its available all over even at CVS, this time it seems to have more strains than last year and theres a nasal variation vs injection.
Getting the real Flu sucks. I'm still undecided so im interested if most climbers get it since its free. What do you think?

I get a flu shot every year.
My reason:
I'm diabetic and the shot keeps me from getting sick.

There seems to be more up-side than down-side for me, so I get one every year. I've never had the flu or any adverse reaction since I started about 5-years ago.
I rationalize it this way - if I don't get sick, I have less chance of infecting my friends (some of whom have little kids). Sort of a "social obligation" kind of thing...

I don't have a spleen so I'm really careful to get one every year.
Herd immunity is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of disease.

I'm pretty selfish, so I don't get it. In the past I've found that I am guaranteed to be sick within a few days of getting the shot versus a chance of getting sick in the upcoming season. This includes semi-communal living and healthcare work.

Had a really bad case of the flu several years ago and have gotten a flu shot every year since. Definitely worth it.

As someone else said, it's really a no-brainer - get the flu shot. It's a really crappy illness that you don't have to worry about getting.

Had swine flu before vaccine came out. Had vaccines every year. Have kids that go to public schools and we go to public places that are infected with infected kids all the time.
This year I'm tring a new approach - no vaccine, but aggressively monitor familly and self and react faster when symptoms start. (take more days off work).

I've never had a flu shot.
Every year I seem to get one case of sniffles, congestion, and aches that lasts about 2-3 days, and that's it. I have heard of worse cases being triggered by the vaccine, and so I choose to roll the dice.

I'm not discounting your experience, but in several large randomized controlled trials, the only difference in symptoms between people who got the flu shot and people who got salt water injections was arm soreness/redness.
I also think if you're in healthcare, you really need to strongly consider getting the flu shot. You're putting your patients at unnecessary risk.

I don't get the flu shot... I don't really have a great reason. I have a strong immune system, no young children and no dependents with bad immune systems, so I just prefer to not get extra vaccinations.

I think they already have that. It turns out that when your antibodies fight asperberg's, they recognize autism later on. Definitely worth the risk.

I'm the same way, every winter I get congested for a week or two. No aches or anything, I just take some sudefed and carry some tissues around with me. Never anything bad enough to take off of school or work for. A few years ago I started getting flu shots to appease the begging of my mother. I got them for two years because I was told the first year you get the shot it doesn't really do anything. Both those years I got the shot I got bad enough cases of the flu that I had to take off of school and sports. Since I stopped them I haven't had anything aside from my normal yearly cold.
I will say though, if I worked in education or healthcare or the like, I would probably get the shot just because of the sheer number of people I'd be around that could get me sick.

no flu shot. I rarely get sick, at least nothing more than the occassional cold. I've heard that once you get it you have to get it every year. Since my immune system seems to be working just fine, I don't see the reason to weaken it over the long term.
