Plus, they may have the second best point guard in the league Josh I think the Celtic lost their chance after the league forced Sheed to retire.

Just a bump to let everyone know that the Celtics are still leading the East, even through all the injuries. They have made some roster moves that have made their bench better and Shaq will be back soon. See you in the playoffs Josh

Why don't you try to pin your hopes on Larry Bird walking thru that door?

The Celtics blew it when they traded Perkins. You can't depend on the injury prone O'neal brothers. The Bulls look like the strongest team in the east right now. Rondo can't handle Rose. Plus they got Noah back. As for the west, The Spurs will go to the finals as long as they stay healthy and no one in the east can beat them in a 7 game series.

I'm how would like to defend against the celtic bench of Shaq.

My initial reaction to the Perkins trade was the same as everyone's...WHAT?! But, after the dust settled, they were left with a much stronger bench. I don't think they would have done it if they didn't expect Shaq back. It also had to do with contract issues. They were probably worried about losing him for nothing this summer. As far as the Bulls go, they are still a year or two away. They just aren't deep enough. Rondo can guard most point guards in the league one on one. Rose may be the exception. His combination of size and speed is troublesome, but the Celts team defense can handle any one star. The Spurs are good, as their record obviously indicates, but I am still not sold on them as the best team. When it comes to the playoffs, then we will know just how good they are. As bad as the Lakers have been playing, I also wouldn't count them out to get back. Dallas also has a shot. Oklahoma is still not good enough. The Celtics record against the elite teams in the league: vs. Lakers 1-1 vs. Spurs 1-0 vs. Heat 3-0 vs. Dallas 0-2 vs. Magic 2-1 vs. Bulls 2-1 Pretty respectable. Barring an impact injury, I say the Celts win it all. Josh

The Celtics are done and now I am swallowing my pride and congratulating the Heat for a job well done. When I wrote this thread, the Celtics were a different team. Although, I was optimistic about the trade, I really felt the same way everyone else in Boston felt. Bye, Bye championship. Although, I still felt they could win it, it depended on a healthy Shaq, which was a hell of a gamble. Without Shaq, their margin for error became nil. Here's what needed to happen for Boston to get past the heat: 1) With Ray and Pierce expending so much energy on the defensive end, Rondo and Garnett really needed to dominate their positions. When Rondo got hurt, it basically took him out of the offense and allowed the Heat to play 5 on 4. He became a liability. Garnett played awesome defensively but he doesn't have the type of game (especially at this point in his career) to be THE offense. He needs to be part of the offense not the go to guy in the low post. 2) The Bench needed to play better than it did at the end of the season. Glen Davis disappeared towards the end. Delonte struggled to stay healthy all year. Krstic is a defensive liability. Jeff Green seemed to be struggling to find his place in a new system and a new role. 3) Home court advantage would have helped. Although I do not blame the trade solely for their early exit, you cannot ignore the fact that they were simply a different team after. They were in first place before and ended in third place. 4) Uncharacteristically, the Heat held their composure and the Celtics lost it, starting with Pierces ejection in Game 1. That kind of set the tone in the series. 5) Big shots. I cannot count how many times that Pierce, Allen, and Garnett have hit big shots in their careers, but in this series, it was Lebron and Wade who hit them. When Lebron hit that contested 3 to tie it up in game 4, it broke their backs. I would also like to retract my earlier assertion that Wade is overrated. He was the MVP of that series. The question now is, did the Heat save any emotion for their series with Chicago. Another question is regarding the Celtics. Are they done? Was this their final run? The core is still under contract for next year. They clearly need a few pieces. They need size. They need youth. They need scoring off the bench. I am not counting them out, even though the rest of you may be. And finally, how bout those classless Lakers? At least the Celtics retained their dignity during their exit. Josh

Odom is just as classless. In fact, the only classy member of that team is Derek Fisher. With Phil gone next year, they will be a shell of their former self. Josh
