Who would have thought? With the male/ female ratio so high, one would think, women climbers would be less catty and get along. However I've noticed a trend of women climbers who want to be the only woman, climbing among a group of men. Truthfully I don't understand.( Even if they have their SO, with them its still not enough.) They want to be the only female climber among the men climbers. Why?

Once again, I read your post and wonder what sort of people you hang out with. Are there women who enjoy undivided attention of multiple men and want to "protect the territory"? Sure! Are they the majority? Not where I am looking... I can only think of one, maybe two women that sort-of fit this description. Maybe it is you specifically that people (in this case other women) don't want to have around?

We had a similar thread a couple of months ago http://www.rockclimbing.com/...d;page=unread#unread OMG!!! She blatantly copied Trailmix's thread!

Well, I have climbed in groups with other women, and we have gotten along fine outside. However, I think some women are just looking to be the only female cat. For attention. Mostly I think its a body thing. Though when I climb at a gym, a friend of mine, told me she didn't like her girlfriend climbing with this guy they both knew. Even though she has a bf. I was surprised.

I was surprised. what kind of shallow, immature, self absorbed people to do choose to hang out with? I think I have met maybe two or three people in my life that I could relate to the people that you mention in almost every post you make. Time to find a higher quality crowd IMHO

i find these kind of threads to perpetuate the sterotype of the group of bitchy, catty, women who can't hang out together without some sort of drama. bitchiness is gender neutral. i climb, bike and ski, with both sexes, i've never had an issue with "women" , but there have been individuals who piss me off.

I know of no serious woman climbers who fits that bill. So this was your friend? Why did you assume that she does not want this other woman climbing with her partner because of jealousy? If one of my climbing partners told me that she does not want some woman climbing with one of our male partenrs, I would assume there are other issues like safety. Or may be she feels territorial because all of sudden she finds he is less available to climb with her, which would be completely unrelated to gender. I have zero tolerance for catty people--not that I have really found any in the climbing community. Like others have said, you should start hanging out with better people and be more selective about who you choose to call friends.

She sure does get us all sucked in though doesn't she? It should be obvious by now that "Enigma" is a 300 pound candy bar eating, diet cola drinking geek completing his computer science term paper on "Manipulating social networks" - I'd give him an A+

Life is too short to spend time, climbing or otherwise, with people who make you feel bad. If you don't climb with these people (male or female), you'll solve your problem.

I finally was bored enough to click on this thread after seeing the title for a month and thinking that it was a thread about climbing w/ longer nails. I like getting mani/pedis, but climbing wrecks them. I wasn't really sure what there was to discuss though. My bad.
