AHHHH a guy in the ladies room!!! lol I posted this poem in General for a guy on a poetry website BUT unless it is controversial and/or will cause a flame war it's not worth replying to. SO i decided i should try it out here also Enjoy it's quite good! -- Jake Rock Climber Free climbing solo, heading outdoors. No ropes, no bolts, no pre-drilled holes, Just solid nerves and fingers of steel, Sure-footed placement is all of the gear. Alone on a windswept, craggy crevasse, One with the mountain, up to the task. More than a sport, more than a whim, Climbing this way risks life and limb. Rely upon courage, skill and know-how. One with the mountain, one with the rock, Slowly ascending, the path to unlock. Straight up the cliff, mind-clearing frock. Reach for the peak, reach to the sky, Bivouac on ledges, just moments to stay, The hard route is chosen, nerve leads the way. Crack climbing hero, up into the shaft, The crux of the matter, is skill at the craft. With no one to follow and no one to lead. Thin edges, finger pockets, flared and cracked. Fingerlocked moments, so painful a fact. Afraid? Not a chance. Up,up to go, Erasing all doubt, confidence to show. The headwall is coming, it's right there to pass, Using fingers as tools, cracks to surpass. The rock face is solved in one final move, Hand-over-hand, foot-hanging groove. Like a millepede, clinging tenaciously, Upward, foot-by-foot inexorably. Pull and push on the ledges to scale With climber's fixed gaze, his heart does not fail. Struggling upward reaching the top. A moment to relish, a moment to stop. The summit is conquered! It's fame and renown. But now comes the question, how to get down? I wrote this while sitting around the fire at Miguels in the Red. The Warriors do gather here, To tell their tales of glory, Of battles fought, Some lost, Some won, Upon those walls of stone. I hope there are other Warrior Poets out there who have poems of their own spiritual climbing moments.

In reply to: A lady on climbing Mount Shasta Complained as the mountain grew vaster, That it wasn't the climb Nor the dirt nor the grime But the ice on her ass that harassed her. From http://www.jokes2go.com/poems/19538.html

Very cool reading! Love it! Here's my contribution, written about a few observations I had when I started climbing: ODE TO A DIRTBAG What's happened to me when I climb? I broke seven nails on that last 5.9! Oh don't pity me, it's not too bad: The NEXT day I lost My fingerpads! Blue shoes are now dirty beige. My Thai wrap leaked on them. Who smells satay?? My toes are curled, instead of my hair. And there's no deodorant like "Mountain Air." The make-up's gone--chalk works just fine! There's nothing more beautiful Than being Alpine!
