At 27 it’s not every day I discover a hidden talent. I’m currently laid up recovering from surgery. As climbing, right now, is out of the question so I decided it was time to try something different. I’m Knitting. Ya’ that’s right, you heard me, knitting. My mother’s been doing it longer then I’ve been alive and I just thought I’d share a secret with you all. Knitting requires a curtain amount of mental and physical dexterity, not uncommon among climbers. It turns out that all those years of flaking, tying and handling climbing ropes and webbing have conditioned me into one hell of knitter. So far, only after a couple of hours of effort I’ve made my girlfriend a lovely five-foot long scarf. So my advice to you is, if you want a great gift idea for Christmas, try kitting. You may just surprise you self. I’m a guy, but I still thought this post would be better received in the Ladies Room.

I just looked at your profile....you can lead sweet sandstone hand cracks AND you now can knit clothing? Your g/f is a lucky woman  !! Knit her a hat to match her scarf.

Before someone arrives to blast you about being sexist for posting about knitting in the ladies room, I think that's really cool. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was younger, but I sort of let it lapse. You are going to get major bonus points this Christmas. Homemade gifts are the absolute best. Lets see a photo of it when it's completed. (and good luck with your recovery)

Yeah, I'm also a guy who knits. I find that some knitting things cross over to climbing as well. Have you noticed that when you cast on, you're esentially doing a repeated clove hitch?

Knitting is so cool. My best buddy has knit me two hats. One has skulls and crossbones on it. It's my favorite. Enjoy the knitting. I only wish i had the patience to take it up. Cheers!

I loooove to knit. Good for fine motor coordination, and building weird calluses. Now if I could only afford more yarn.... k.
