Climbing related? Only to the extent that I was looking for comfy clothes to climb in. First I'd have to qualify that my shopping gene is missing..I hate it. Make a list, get it ...be done with it. At any rate, I can hardly believe that I can't find pants high enough or shirts long enough. We're not talking about above the belly button (pants) and below the butt cheeks (shirts)...hell I'd just like something to meet in the middle.

I think the designers have fundamentally decided that the world should be exposed to show 3 inches above and below the belly button. Grrrrrr

Oh the cute lil gurly who asked me what I was looking for sent me to the guys section to buy clothes...apparently they don't mind not being exposed!

Ok enuf ranting.

ahhhh yes..."climbing clothes" made for women are generally skimpy and utterly useless for anything other than the gym-rat beauty contest. i am continually frustrated with how fragile and un-utilitarian most of the female-specific climbing clothes are. prAna and stonewear are perfect examples - super stretchy fabric that doesn't hold up for sh!t on real rock. i've shredded countless pairs of their pants in chimneys and cracks. blech. and pockets (if you can find any pants with pockets) are hysterical. they're just big enough for a tampon, but not a powerbar. argh.

nextascent - i notice you're in CO...not sure where you're at, but there are a few places in boulder that have a decent selection - title nine, outdoor divas and neptunes to name a few.

I always wear guys pants. They sit nice right below my belly button (like 1/2 inch-1 inch) and they zip off at the knee so i can climb in "capris" or pants. Very nice to climb in. They hold up well on rock too. Then I just wear a "wife-beater" tank top or spaghetti strap shirt and I'm comfy and good to go. Or in the winter, I wear a t-shirt with a long t-shirt under it, so when I'm cold I can keep the sleeves, and if I get warm, I can just take off the long t-shirt and keep the short sleeved one on. This also lightens my load cuz I don't have to carry a jacket.

I can relate totally to ya. I made myself a nice comfy pair of climbing pants and I just wear a sports bra or a t'shirt...aslong as you can move in what your wearing then I spose it's all good! Well good luck!

Favorite new piece of climbing clothing: an old pair of carpenter jeans that I cut off right below the knees. I'm short, so in general 'capris' just look like my pants got shrunk in the dryer. I look like a hick in those jeans, but darn they're comfy!!

i generally shop online, which i think helps.

i also take issue with the belly button (never been the same since pregnancy anyway.) :? i really like capris made by patagonia, north face, adn prana...as for shirts, i find some the tanks with a built-in shelf bra by nike, patagonia, and north face comfortable and functional. definitely got the coverage, if not the price. :?

all the cheapy clothing stores here seem to be selling tank tops with built in bras. I picked up a few 2/$15 CAD. Holy cheap!

now what about sports bras? I tried on about 8 of them, different brands and styles... they all squish what i do have and combining that with arm muscles, i look like a man in a bra. not my favourite look.

:D crazy..I'm with ya on the sports bra "smoosh" effect. Its even more of a pain when you have a wee bit more than average to stick in there. Once again, designers thinking that only small chested women should be wearing these? I think I need to check out some of the specialty shops and see if they have something there. I get that they were initially created to prevent any movement while "running" but I might as well have an ace bandage bound tightly around my chest. Hmmmm

i thought the opposite - that they're made for larger chested women...

i think i'm just going to buy a tank top i like and hem it up to a sports bra sort of thing. i don't need the support, just something to climb in when it's hot!!

My favourite pair of climbing pants are a pair of boys skateboarding pants. They have lots of room for women's thighs and reinforced knees so they don't wear out. Check out the skate shops.

People who share my pain!!! Bless you all. I hate shopping for clothes - it it's comfy and I look cute and it fits, it's mine. Nothing ever fits however. I typically have to shop in the kids section - boys size 14 or 16 seem to fit ok.

As far as the mid-section bearing goes, I am in the same boat - I absolutely abhor showing skin. Personally, I'm saving that sight for my man - if I ever have a boyfriend again that is. he he.

But I do love those tanks with the built-in shelf bra. I must go out & buy a plethora of them..they are way comfy. I haven't bought any climbing pants yet but I'll keep your comments in mind. I get frustrated with REI's stuff because I get the catalog, find something cute and then go to the store to try it on and they wont' have it! I can't buy clothes without trying them - at least not pants. Things rarely fit right if I buy them straight out of the catalog. And who wants to go through the hassle of getting something in the post, trying it on and then having to return it when it doesn't fit? And having to pay for S&H twice is a bugger!!!!

We women are so hard to please aren't we?! Just teasing.

my shopping gene is always ressurected when i enter any kind of sporting goods store!  you can never have enough gear!

As far as climbing clothes. Old Navy is the best:carpenter pants and shorts. I also got a bomber pair of canvas work pants from american eagle on sale for 19 bucks. I always shop the guys clothes. Old Navy's tanks are priced reasonably too. I do wear a lot of cross over clothing from biking/skiing, depending on the weather.

I did, however (gulp!) just spend a wad on a pair of mountain hardware climbing capris. Very heavy duty, comfy and stretchy. Won't wear out like prana stuff. Got a pair of prana capris last yr. and they didn't last the summer...........and i wore them more for casual wear!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm new to this site, just recently found it. Hope you all don't mind me jumping right in?

I abhor cloths shopping, to the extent that I have a standing arrangement with my sister in law that anytime my daughter needs to go cloths shopping, she takes her. I just hand over some cash and wave. Those two can shop all day long and love it.

I just don't get it :?

Anyways, what I've found works best for climbing in are my sons zip off carpenter pants. Roomy and DURABLE(the most important trait in any cloths I wear), and my husbands denim button up work shirts on colder days.

I haven't found a tank top I can't snag or tear yet though, usually use one as a bandana in case I need to change. Sure it's nasty and sweaty by the time I need it, but at least it's whole. I'm there to climb, not smell good.

I tried some of those "climbing cloths" that are out there(got them as a gift). Shredded them in about 2 hours, ripped the shirt neary in half, and that was just on the hike to the rock. I'm not the most careful person when it comes to cloths.

The Gap's new summer line has some really nice halter tops with built in support. They are actually long enough to fit under a harness without riding up (and I'm really long waisted). They aren't exceptionally durable - I wouldn't recommend offwidths or chimneys in them - but for sport climbing they're great.
