I've been looking around at harnesses, women's models specifically, and was wondering where they should fit on the body. I have read just above the hip bones, but when I look at ratio measurements it would fit at my narrow point. My narrow point is at my ribs so there is a whole hand width of distance between the two. Is it supposed to fit that high? I haven't worn any other harness than the giant rental ones at the gym, the one size fits all ones.

Narrowest point. That's why there are women's harnesses. We go in more than guys do so there's more to cinch up and fit properly. That said, if your harness goes any higher than your belly button when weighted, it is too big.

I kind of figured the narrow point, but I am confused about it your saying that it is a problem if it goes above my bellybutton. My narrow point is above my bellybutton.

i would say bellybutton, even if its not your narrow point. dont worry, you wont fall out (just look at some older climbers with beer bellies). oh, imagine falling with the harness around your ribs....
