I've been wanting to switch to pants for climbing to avoid scratching up my knees and legs. I wear short running shorts now because my legs get really warm when I climb. Do you have any good recommendations for pants to climb in?
I've liked my Mountain Hardwear Yumas except that I sometimes trip over the elastic at the bottom. I've tried wearing my Prana knickers, but they're tight fitting and just trap all the heat in which is exactly what happens when I wear jeans.

Stretchy yoga-type pants or capris. I go to a store like TJMaxx, they always have a ton of them, various brands.
If you want to spend some money, then Verve makes REALLY nice ones.
Pretty much every company associated with climbing in some way-- Mountain Hardwear, Arc'teryx, Outdoor Research, Mountain Khakis, Stonewear Designs, make "climbing pants". It is just the matter of finding the ones you like.

I like the Verve ones too, I just haven't been bothered to shell out the cash.
I think most women's climbing pants aren't worth the money. They are usually some light weight material that feel nice and soft, but doesn't really last climbing outside. I've also just started wearing yoga pants all the time. Cheap and they do the job.

My problem with yoga pants, or any stretchy/fitted pants and some non-fitted pants is just that I get so hot and start sweating all over. It bothers me because my hands then get sweaty much faster.
I don't need expensive climbing pants per say, and sure I can try on various pants for fit, but wanted to see if I could get any firsthand information about what pants are breezy and work for climbing.

If yoga pants make you sweat, I think you're just gonna have to get used to sweating.

Or stop climbing in the sun when the temps are above 50F?
Nothing would offer the ventilation qualities equal to short running shorts that the OP is currently using, but the stretchy pants come in different weights, too, some are lighter than others.

I know a few people who wear their Verve pants through the summer. They say they're surprisingly cool.
I don't have experience with this personally though.

I wear my verves all summer...I never get so hot that I can't climb. I love my Verve leda Capris.

i have great pair of capris from rei. they're made out of lightweight quick dry material and can be made into shorts by a couple of loops and inside buttons. very comfy, flat waistband. but for the most port climbing in cold weather: heavier work pants, warm weather cheap ass shorts from wherever.

Belikos seem too baggy for me, but these ones in cotton are pretty nice.

those are great pants. i've never worn verve before. what's the fit like, and by that i mean, is the sizing accurate or do they fit on the small side
