I've tried not shaving the pits, not a fan of it. I'm lazy about shaving the legs. I'm lucky to have fine thin hair there so nobody even notices till a week or two in. This summer I didn't shave for 3 months (I was in school waited till after exams till I bothered). Nobody said boo to me about my hairy legs. Usually I'll shave every 2 to 4 weeks, the hair seems to grow in much slower like this. I do shave a little more often when I'm doing any amount of road riding, I'm not at the competative level but it makes you feel more sleak and faster. It used to drive one of my exboyfriends crazy that I didn't shave often, another one didn't even notice.

Bah. Love me, love my primate limbs! Actually, that's a gross exaggeration. I am not a hairy person at all; despite my darker features my body hair grows in faint and thin. I've used Nair et. al. which lasts longer and avoids cuts (esp. on the knees!) but I always seem to miss a spot. Plus, it smells Usually, if I am going to remove hair, I just bust out the .10cent plastic razor and some chicky shave gel. Now that I think about it, I don't even remember the last time I shaved my legs. I'll take a stab at it and guess it's been a couple months. Sure, you can see it if you look closely for it, but unless I said something, you'd never know. Besides, I don't wear shorts or short skirts often, so who'd know even if they got the chance? Now, armpit hair, I do shave every few days, or every day if I am wearing tank tops (which means it's hot outside) Definitely nice to keep the stink at bay. As for shaving anything else... ahem... My men, being the outdoorsy types that they are, haven't really cared about my hair status, although they do get pretty stoked at feeling up smooth, freshly-shorn legs. They also like to watch the leg-shaving process. I'm not sure why, is it sensual or sexy to watch me go "ah! fk!" and wipe blood off my shin?

As a professional esthetician (I make money waxing) I am (DUH) way in favor of waxing. The cost is relative to the type of salon or frequency of the service. Ask them upfront how often the do the type of service you're interested in. It can be painful (thats okay, I dig pain) and you have to let the hair grow in for about 6-8 weeks (you'll hear different numbers on this but to get the longest lasting effect, you gotta wait longer before you do it). If you're an adventurer, go to the local beauty school and let them do it. Its much cheaper than most salons and you're helping a student out. (just don't throw in for the frosting job.. never know how that'll turn out) One thing though - if you don't have experience, doing it yourself can be more trouble than its worth. I can do my legs, but what a chore! Bikini line.. I did mine and was bruised and I ended up having someone else finish. having said all of that, I shave - I get way too annoyed with growing the hair.

I am such a "hair-a-phobe"...too bad I'm beastly! I really can't shave because I'm plagued with ultra-sensitive skin. So far waxing has been the only answer for me, but like a lot of you ladies have pointed out the grow out phase really sucks.

Decided to check in and see what the Ladies were discussing. Very interesting I've been shaving the pits since high school. Other stuff on occasion but the pits are the most frequent. Just not a big fan of hair. Except on my brain bucket but heredity has made that decision for me. Y don't topics in this forum show up on the front page? maurice

nah, we aren't linked to the front page because just clicking the FP link to respond, most members didn't notice what forum they were posting too. so people only drop by here if they want to. kind of like community, only sane.

In the past my feminist response to my love of shiney, unhairy bodies was to date cyclists. Then I decided that there were bigger issues to worry about. (Or was it just that the guy that I fell for was called "Shaggy" for a reason?)

No complaints on my part... :P

yah most of my friends, who are girls, dont shave, actually the only one of my close friends who does shave is a guy....huh... as far as society pushing it on women, i would say it does, but as not-a-women, my opinion is probably moot, in which case just ingore me. i think that just depends on what part of society you are a part of, but for the most part, at least in the media, you NEVER see unshaved women, its just not "acceptable". I mean if you really want to, by all means go ahead, but dont shave on my behalf, i [as] honestly dont care...

Since I last posted on this, I switched to an epilady-like device. I got sick of the sticky mess that waxing makes. I like this better. Besides, you can chill out watching a movie while you do it. Of course you'll need to vacuum...

anyone have an electric razor shaver thingy? i think it doesn't give you "as close" as a shave but i was thinking about getting one for those long trips so i don't catch my leg hair on the trees and get caught while i'm hiking...

As a guy, all throughout college I shaved my head. Finally, when grad-school and jobs came calling, I had to grow it out. At some point in time, I decided that I would try shaving my chest... I'm still undecided if it was a good choice or not. Why? Because now it is a *huge* addiction... I didn't have that much hair, but I really liked the way it looked. You see much more tone, you look like you're in much better shape.. But shaving every day is a pain! And now I can't stand to grow it out, because after a week or so, it is not only uncomfortable but makes me self concious with my girlfriend. (*I* wouldn't want to sleep next to a stubbly-chest guy...) So waiting for it to grow out just to wax it again seems like too much of a wait.. I wish they had non-permanent remedies which lasted longer. Shave = 1-2 days, Wax = 4 weeks, but then four weeks of stubble, laser = (maybe being clean shaven when you're 65 won't be quite so neat..)

When you wax you get fuzz, not stubble. It only hurts for a day or so. I once dated a guy that shaved his back, and although I'm not one that finds hairy backs attractive, sweaty stubble was down-right unnerving.

I'm a guy, and I just started shaving my pits a couple months ago and don't think I'll ever go back to growing it back. It looks so much better than nasty hairy pits. I just need to know how to keep 'em nice and smooth all the time...shaving is ok if I let it go a couple days, but ingrown hairs sucks. I tried nair once, but it burned like hell!! Ladies, any suggestions? Thanx!

sim a man, but i do remove some of my chest hair and the hair under the armpits. girls seem to like that. i use veet depilating cream for sensitive skin. i cant shave on these areas because my skin is very sensitive. ok, now i sound like gay. :P seriously, my skin is so sensitive that i get suction marks on my neck that stay for a week. my gf, on the other hand, doesnt get them at all. damn.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only girl who doesn't shave...my hair isn't too bad; the hair on my legs is really only visible from a certain angle. I should start shaving my armpits though, aargh, why hasn't evolution gotten rid of body hair?

i think it's fine for guys to shave. i mean, why the heck not? do what feels right, shave, don't shave, etc... it is said that the ancient egyptians found that removing the hair in the armpit area contributed towards good hygiene. sounds like it was just easier to clean...

I have a friend who used to shave her legs because "everyone else was doing it" but then over one summer she decided not 2 do it anymore because she felt that she didn't have to conform to societys idea of the "perfect woman" (+, she is not very hairy and the hair she has is blonde so it's not so noticeable) although she does still shave her pits out of personal preference. My friend says "it's a good test for all the people close with you. if they don't want to be around you or be with you because of your legs, then they don't deserve your company anyways  !"
