Did you get her to sign it when she was in the DC and Baltimore area?

Actually, come to think of it, it was several months ago. She had some free (sponsored) slideshows followed by signings and hanging out. A lot of the people there who had her book had her sign it for them, which is what made me think of it. I don't collect signatures, but I had just started taking my nephew climbing and he has been getting into it. So I asked her to sign a postcard picture she was giving out for my nephew, telling him to keep up the climbing. He loved it when I told him that I met the best climber in the world, and that I told her about him and his climbing, and that she signed an autograph for him to keep it up! It was very nice of her to do that.

If you all love her so much, you should come to the Red River Gorge for Rocktoberfest (and the Petzl Rock Trip) and take her clinic. Way cooler than a book. Go to RRGCC.org for more information and to register.

Same here...I am sure she has to be a beautiful person, other than an amazing climber. Actually I risked having her visit me. She lived quite a while in Rome, and met with the local climbing community, 2 old friends of mine were visiting US this summer, with her, but they were in California when I was in Italy already. I would have loved meeting her.

It's only a plane ride away (although exhausting - I just did two weekend trips, one to CO and the other UT). You'll get to climb in the Red, schmooze with the likes of Lynn and even Chris Sharma, meet lots of cool people and did I mention climb at the Red? You couldn't ask for a better weekend!!!

I read it 5 yrs ago when it had just been translated (in French). Her story was nice, showing determination. But I felt that at the beginning she didn't climb by passion, but more because she was talented and aware that she could get financial benefits from this activity. Of course, over the years, she got caught by her way-of-life and its emotional and socail rewards.

That was only in the French version. In the English version she only ever climbs for money...

40 for each clinic or 30 if you register with the event (you can do the event as a package for 20 or itemize it - see rrgcc.org).

In reply to: But I felt that at the beginning she didn't climb by passion, but more because she was talented and aware that she could get financial benefits from this activity. We must have read different stories.

As people elsewhere have said, no visible affect whatsoever.

Like no facial expression, limited vocal intonation, very static (almost forced) body language. Very much like a robot would be the best way to put it.

Oh, there's no doubt that she's strong. Just very cold. It might be that she's just that way around people she doesn't know. That was just my impression of her, and others I've spoken to echoed that sentiment.

Looks like I will be headed to Rocktoberfest. I'm a little wary that the party will be larger than I desire, but I'm surious about the clinics now. What clinic is Lynn Hill doing? There's nothing being offered that I really need, but there I'm sure I'd learn regardless (unlsess I go to a beginner class or something).

I could see how someone might think that from a slide show she gave once, but I met her later and she was friendly enough. More importantly the women she has climbed with seem think to think highly of her and appreciate the effort t she has taken to help them in their climbing careers/lives.

I didn't say just the slide show. And all of my close friends (note the plural there) who got roped into belaying for her all echoed the same sentiment.
