My roomate, good friend and his ole lady an myself are planning a Euro trip after our NOLS semester in the Rockies come spring 08. We're trying to start planning now though. We plan on hitting the typical tourist spots but along the way we plan on doing LOTS of climbing.. Any helpful advice or climbs that we definately should hit? And is it worth bringing trad gear? i heard corsica is a must for trad? Thanks for your help guys, and girls.. richard_henegar@hotmail.com

depends on what your plans are. giving general pointers for europe is even worse than giving general pointers for slovenia (and did it just about a week ago). theres just too much to see. well, corsica was featured in climbing, but the true meccas of european trad are the alps and dolomites. doesnt really matter in which country. and no climber should come to europe and not visit paklenica, croatia and kalymnos, greece. maybe start with kalymnost (too hot in summer), then move onto paklenica (also too hot in summer, but the seasong starts after kalymnos), then whatever else you had planned. and check out the eurofreaks forum. it was made especially for solving such dillemas. and to give us euros our own sandbox to play in

can you get more general than this? are you interested in sport or trad or bouldering? mountains or crags (adventure-land or tourist-field)? any special country preferences? what is the climbing level you are looking at? what will be your transportation mode? Climbing spots you'd like to hit depend at least on these minor details... otherwise this confirms again a need for a 'general europe' presentation page on our RDB...

Have you seen the http://wikitravel.org/en/Main_Page? Something like this, just more climbing specific would be really cool... - Daniel

It must not be long; otehrwise ppl won't read it. I propose that each AM puts together the most important features of his own country, geographically and meteorology/season speaking,a nd maybe one of us try to summarize or organise it...

You might wanna check out the introduction I wrote for Germany. I thought something like that (just the overview), standadisized for all coutries and than an introduction to Europe with travelling tips etc. would be cool. Maybe we should do another thread on this... - Daniel

We're interested in both sport an trad, not really much bouldering b/c of the lack of room for a crash pad attached to our 4500ci packs. When we're in shape, we're leading about 5.10b sport, trad's another story, im still learning. As for mountains or crags (adventure-land or tourist-field) we're not that picky, we just want beautiful scenery and climbing in route to or around our typical tourist spots. I have a rough idea of touristy places we'd like to stop but the list is at my house.(Im at work). If you'd like, i can email you back those places, that is, if you're willing to help us out and point us in the right direction. As for places we'd like to climb, Peak district in England sounds fun and a few routes in Corsica in last months climbing mag look fun. As for mode of travel, we're not sure, train maybe? I heard a euro pass is the best way to go.. As you can see, we're clueless here, hence the reason im planning a year and half in advance..Thanks for your time bro.. Oh yea, whats' RDB?

so far i'm a sis' post your places of tourism and we can figure out climbing spots for you... as i'm more of a mountaineer and trad-addict, if i were you, i'd def. hit at least one of these - Dolomites, Val di mello, Chamonix, Ecrins, Callanques.

well, from what i read in climbing, youll need to be a bit better than 10b for corsica. and offcourse, your list would be a great start to some good planning. like thomas said, rdb is the routes database. just click the 'routes' link on the top bar and see where it takes you
