My lovely wife wants to take me back to Europe for a climbing trip. And since she no longer climbs (since motherhood) my best option is Via Ferrata routes. We have been to the Dolomites which was magical. I hear that there is Via Ferrata in Austria and Spain but can't find any information on it.
Does anyone have information on other nations or regions with VF routes? Guidebooks? I'm happy to go back to Italy but we would be happy to visit somewhere new.

Maybe you'll have more luck finding some in Austria and Switzerland searching for "Klettersteig" which is the German word for Via Ferrata.

when you going? Jules and I look to hit Italy next May. Catch some of the Giro. I am not sure if its too early for a via ferata? How about that big rock in Slovenia? A few Alpinist issues ago they had a write up on it. I thought it said 1000 meters with many routes from 5.4 and up. Cool stuff.

Hey Big Bill,
3,000' of 5.4 in Slovenia sounds like a piece of heaven. And I think they have cold beer there as well. I would love to get there and miss some of the American touristas as well. Sorting out there non-english language books and sites is cramping my little brain.
I think May will be fine for you. I climbed VF's in the Dolomites mid-November last time and it was just starting to act like Fall - light flurries that melted off quickly.
We're hoping to go Oct/Nov this year. My 40th is in November and Alex wants to take me climbing for it. I suggested earning our way in to the "half-mile-high" club on El Cap but no take.
How's paradise? Climbing much? VA is great and im getting on rock a fair bit - thank god.

may should be fine in slovenia/italy. in fact, its probably the best month (if dry, but it usually is) to climb; the temps are just right (unless youre one of those that likes to climb when its freezing), though it might be a bit hot in the southern parts. june is usually pretty hot in most places. the same goes for via feratas.
which big rock was it btw? there are a few that fit the description :wink:
