Hi everybody! Is there anyone who has some information about climbing in Slovenia? I'm interested on trad alpine climbing and ice climbing. Thanks a lot. P.S. I don't speak Slovenian so I prefer in Italian or English. Bye!

As for sport climbing there is a complete topo of Slovenia, for trad climbing in my known there's not. There's the old book "alpi Giulie", where you can find classic routes even of this beautiful (usually wild..) Slovenian side of alps, but it's actually old. It's a pity, there are probably many beautiful routes almost unknown of the last generation of slovenian alpinists. Ciao

Ciao sorry to for late reply, but my internet at home kindof died... anyway, there are topos for trad and ice climbs for separate parts of slovenia. you can get them at better bookstores and outdoor shops. if you narrow your goals a little bit more, i should be able to help you futher, even though i havent yet done any trad or ice (you need a license for both in slovenia to do them 'legally'). also, check out the routes database for slovenia, i have uploaded some ice and trad crags. but the old site was better in this aspect because i was able to color-code the crags for easy recognition.

First of all thanks to reply at my thread! However I know 2 guidebooks about Slovenia. The first one, "Slovenske Stene", about trad alpine climbing and the second, "Zimski vzponi" about ice climbing...but they are both in Slovenian and I don't understand nothing! So I would know if there is any book or topo in English...I have already seen the site's database but there are mainly sport climbing topos... Bye P.S. What do you mean when you say that to climb in Slovenia you need a license?! I can't climb free?! Ciao!

Ciao! i will check around for english topos, but i cant promise you anything. as for the license... it is basically a requirement for slovenian climber wanting to do alpine/trad. you need to take a course and than gather some experience with experienced partners before you are 'allowed' to go out on your own. it is a pretty good system imho, it ensures that not too many gumbys get in over their heads. anyway, you CAN go climb whatever you want, but you cannot register the ascent for anything (refund of expedition costs, sport status etc.) if you are not 'allowed' to climb that grade.

Ok, thanks! As for the license I understood...but it's not a problem because I don't have to register any ascent. Ciao
