hey guys, I noticed when you are checking out someone's profile, you can see their ascents, routes, even posting records, what about photo submission? And what about adding the ability to search the gallery by who submitted them? I'vee seen some stuff I really like and want to see more by that photographer and haven't been able to. Thanks!

It sucks that most of my photos are in High quality. I don't have a program to make them smaller at school and have to wait until I go home for a day or two.

I agree with krillen - I think it would be great to be able to view pictures by poster and/or climber, and have a section about photos in the user profile

I personally think we should be submitting photos we take, not one's out of magazines. I've seen several of the pics in the Gallery in various magazines first.

I'm contemplating redesigning the way images are handled, displayed, etc. They would be organized into categoried (trad, sport, bouldering, mountains, ice, etc) that way people can find EXACTLY what they are looking for. Also, scanned imaged from copyrighted materials is a BIG NO NO!! PLEASE do not submit photos you don't the right to submit. We're looking for original photos, images no one has ever seen. THAT's what we need more of.

You can view pics submitted by a certain user. Click 'Search' in the upper right hand side of the Home Page, then enter 'submitted by (enter user name)'. This will generate a list of all pics submitted by that user. But that's a great idea, to add 'photos submitted by _________' to the user profiles. rrrADAM [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2001-11-05 23:22 ]

Browsing options. I think it would be cool to be able to browse photos by how you ranked them. So for example I could easly find the photos that I rated 2 thumbs up, and also be able to browse through photos which I haven't seen/rated yet. Also I think it would be great to be able to post a comment to a photo, so that interested photographers could discuss composition lighting and things like that. Similar to how it is done at photo.net I realize that would take quite a bit of database work and scripting and isn't a very vital service, but it is just a thought.

I'd like to konw what people voted pics an why. I submited two yesterday, and they are medium quality middle of the line bouldering shots. Right away they each got three votes. one averaged out at 2.33 and the other at 3.31. I know these aren't 10's, and I don't expect them to win contests, but I'd honestly like to know why people think they are sh!t. Maybe I can learn something and improve my skills from it.

i think it would be cool to have an album in your profile. if you see a quality pict from a guy, you might want to see more of what hes got. chances are he might have more beautiful, emotional, artistic, non-butt shots taken with a good camera. also, i do think it would be cool if we have the option to view the picts in their catagories (e.g. trad, free soloing, sport, TR and bouldering etc.) as well as their ranking and date. but, in order to do that, i think in the submission there must be a pull down menu for those catagories. for future though. cause i dont think that trevor wants to manually catagorize whats already there. just backing some ideas for blackjack and piano, since the picts are flooding in. The strongest draw to this website is the community. I got to www.climbxmedia.com for videos, www.drtopo.com for topos, and I come here for news and to be able to see what other climbers like me are up to. Being able to share opinons and beta with other climbers is a key feature of this website. Having a commentable photo album feature for users would be a major benifit to those of us who like to look at what other climbing areas of the world look like and to view other photographers interesting photos. But to get back to the website design; to keep the user-base growing the site should focus on the features that people are using and enjoy, like private messages, photos and forums, which, by the way, they are doing very very well.

The only problem with that is, Thumbnails take up a lot mor espace than text, and with the number of photos that are on here, that a LOT of server space. And it grows every day. there's also the added time effort to make each thumbnail for each photo. Sounds a little cumbersome to me. it would be cool, don't get me wrong, just a lot of work.

There are two search functions on this site. Look at the "upper left" of the page, just below 'Edit Profile' this is a Google Search that has an RC.com function. (site wide) Above each Forum page is another search function that only searches the Forums. rrrADAM

relax you two. There is one search in the menu bar between "Links" and "About", THAT is the SITE search. The other search is in small blue text under the sticker advertisement, beside "Private Messages" and FAQ. It's in black square brackets. THAT is the FORUMS search. try both...

Back to the top... I think it would be a great idea to show: "Photos submitted by ________________" in profiles. This should be fairly easy coding. rrrADAM [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2001-12-16 15:47 ]

yes it should be really easy coding .. if you notice when you edit your own profile there is a list of every photo you have submitted in the select your profile pic area. It should be really easy to copy that code into the publicly viewable display. I wish I had the time to code for this site, but untill I get out of 4th year engineering (in 4 months) I am prety slogged. When I do graduate, I hope that I will be able to redo the photo stuff for this site. I think it is one of the coolest features but requires alot of modifications since it has grown so large So keep posting your suggestions

Also, would love to be able to submit "large" jpeg photos (maybe up to 2mb) that have higher picture quality. I guess a reasonable solution to that is to post the small/med version, and then link to some other free online photo site that hosts the large one for people who are interested. I guess that would be ideal, and then a cool feature would be to be able to add it so that when viewing a photo I can click on a "view high res version" link, that opens the referenced URI in another browser window.
