It seems to me there should be a way to look up partners in the database by distance rather than just city/state. Searching by state is far too broad unless you live in some tiny place like north dakota, while city can be too narrow. Maybe if you live in a big city you only care about people who live there, but for those of us outside the core it's impractical. Someone within 25 miles of me (not very far to meet up since this is a rural area after all) could be in any of a dozen different towns. Is going through and searching in each separately really the only way to find nearby people?
