I noticed that the Oozemeister had brought up, in a forum thread that was moved to Community, that he wanted his contributions to the Forums archived for the edification of other users of RC.com. Would it be possible to perhaps charge a nominal fee to "rent" space for a Personal Forum for a user who wanted to have his/her own Forum for a period of time?

I would think that it would not need to be an permanent arrangement, that RC.com could charge a monthly fee, and extend the renting priveledge for a maximum number of months (6, maybe?), then the threads get moved back into whatever Forum they belong. It could be the responsibility of the renter to move the threads, or the threads would get deleted, so there would be motivation to assign them to other Forums. And, to encourage that the threads get moved to the proper Forums, the renter could be prohibited from renting a Personal Forum for 6 months if they were not properly placed.

Personal Forums renters would have to take a 3 month hiatus before renting a Forum again, in order to give others time to rent. Other than that, it seems that the renter could pretty much have free reign to post lengthy, meaningless, meaningful, interesting, boring, entertaining, insipid...whatever, within the bounds of RC.com guidelines (such as those for the Community Forum).

I don't really understand the purpose of these personal forums.

If the search ever goes back up anyone who wants to see a certain users posts has a very simple search to perform.

I would like to second Ooze's request for his own forum. His posts can be very entertaining and many people obviously read them.

I don't like the idea at all, for one this is a community and I don't think any user should stand out over the others except by popular agreement, no one here is more important (or less important) than the one next to them in terms of their potential. this would be a tool for some users to stand out from the rest simply by putting up some money. we're all climbers and I think it should just stay at that since this is what this site is all about to begin with. We've already seen what happens when people "have their own forum" thru which they express their oppinion, and that mode of comunication was retired due to the problems it caused.

also... there already is a "personal forum" thing implemented, look in a person's profile and there is a link that says "messages posted by user"

Exactly. I don't think there's really a need for personal forums. The site is fairly extensive, and for new users it can be tricky to navigate as is...

Perhaps you could make a thread in the archives, then copy and past your good posts into there? Hmmm, i'm going to make a Dr. Jumar archive right now
