The same goes for photo rating. Case in point-a picture I recently posted received 9 straight "10" votes-then, some moron on this site that has something against me(and is a possessor of multiple identities I'll bet)rolled out of bed about noon after watching his soap operas and about 8 very low votes sunk it. Not that I really care-I have received a lot of nice comments from people about my photography and that is what counts. Ratings suck when people aren't mature enough to deal with it.

Hey JM,

I don't usually peruse the photo's, I get enough of that at work but have noticed that when yours pop up on the home page, they are of very high quality, kudos to you.

As for the subject, a noble idea but not one that has really worked that well in practice.

Speaking as someone who has a very low rating ( I think maybe being a Rams fan) GO RAMS, has something to do with it, but honestly, if you go through the 150+ posts that I have made on this site, there are maybe 3 or 4 that I have really slammed someone, (I DON'T TAKE ANY OF THEM BACK).

I think knowing who gave me a bad Q-Score would only incite more flaming.

My .02 cents

You only have 5 votes, and non of them were mine.

I just gave you a 10 for the hell of it.

Hey Piano...I'm going over to hammer you on your Q... it is entirely too high! I mean, it's higher than mine for crying out loud and that flames me!

Beta-thanks for the compliment-I enjoy posting photos and getting the feedback from people who know what they're talking about.BTW-do you need help lowering your Q also?

No Thank You,

I seem to be able to do that all by myself, although, SURPRISE, Piano, I was sure that I deserved a low score from you once or twice.

I think that most folk on the site really don't care, or would prefer not to care about an arbitrary rating, what do you think?

Piano...You've had 47 votes so my 0 didn't help you out much! Oh well, I tried.

It's quality rating, not popularity rating...or so goes the story.

Beta, I don't like voting for people, takes too much time.

I don't like it. It's like rating people at parties, "That guy, he's a five." Yeah.

I like my zero. Nobody likes me. That's the way it SHOULD be.

paino, so your theory is something like: the lower your Q rating, the more you are loved cause only the people who don't like you vote. Jeez, even I understand that. I got dunked on my Q rating too. It went from 10 to 4.something after putting up a post that didn't s--- on anyone at all but I still managed to piss someone off judging from the one reply it got. How about if we got to see the names behind the votes well after the fact? like the following month?

Jody,

LOL!! Still looks like it to me!

I'm not whoring myself out here, I really do like the fact that no one felt the need to label my articulation and personality. Which is a 10, by the way. Yup.

the split personality/alter ego, dual identity person(s) is a bit of a peave...

they are wasting the managers time with cheap, unthoughtful, idiot posts.

i think you need to invoke a newww user-classification : the "postmaster" for those prolific posters.

i'll just keep adding route info and get the same ratings #s as the "postmasters"

This is a copy of my post in "Area Managers". I think the topic bears discussion; it goes a little beyond just the Q-Rating, and I know I ruffled quite a few feathers from some folks, particularly those with a lot of points. I let it drop last time, but, hey it fits with this discussion, and this is an open forum, so lets see if goes anywhere. It doesn't matter so much to me that I would stop contributing to the site, but, if people don't like the Q-Rating, it seems logical to me to extrapolate to a discussion of points in general.

I agree that the Q-rating idea is one that "meant well", but in practice, it hasn't really added anything of value. If the Q-Rating stays, I would not want to see who has voted what points for me; I think that would either inhibit voting, or cause vindictive feelings and behaviour.

I don't care for the points thing in general; I'll say that up front, so if anyone wants to slam my Q-Rating for that opinion, do it now, and save yourself some time from reading the rest of the post.

These are some forum threads that are discussing this topic.

I want to proffer the idea for your consideration, of eliminating giving points to people for doing anything on the site. I visit and contribute and manage because I want to do so, and I would be doing it if there were no point system as a reward. I think the quality contributions would certainly continue without the points, and anyone who is motivated by points will then be less of a problem for those of us who are more bothered by poor quality and/or wrong database entries.

The website keeps setting records for visits, and I don't think this tide would ebb without the points as a reward. Other than listing the number of posts I've made -in my profile, rather than at each post I make, I don't need a name or title that indicates number of posts, either. I don't think it lends useful information to visitors, and I do think it may perhaps lend a false sense of authority to people who have posted a lot.

Points have been defended as being a public reward for contributions to the site; so, do you need that gold star next to your name in front of the rest of the class? Is that what it takes to get you here? or to contribute photos, or post to the forums? or manage a state, enter route info, etc. etc. etc.?

Well, give it some thought. Basically, I'm suggesting that the point system doesn't add to the quality of the website, and, in fact is generating more discord than it's worth. The Q-Rating is just the most condensed expression of the problem with points.

Thanks for taking the time to think about it.
