I must admit that when I first joined this site I eventually gave myself a q-rating because having a q-rating of zero just didn't look good. However, at some point in time this rating was erased, which is fine by me now that I have other votes. I have seen recently though that there are several people that have ratings for themselves. What is the attitude towards this from the admins? Will these votes also be erased at some point in time?

as far as I know they have been erased (automatically?) but they keep re-voting for themselves, a bit sad

Another related issue that might want to be addressed but doesn't deserve its own topic: I've noticed that a lot of people have very low q-votes (0, 1, etc) that don't have names next to them. I'm assuming that these were made by members who were, for one reason or another, removed from the site. Since these people are often ones that made trouble, hated everyone, and were deemed not good people to have around the site, maybe their votes shouldn't count.

We are working on disabling self-voting, but there's a long list of work and that's low priority. As for disabled accounts, we try not to delete them completely anymore because of the fact that they leave holes in the votes or forums. Once an account is gone, then it's pretty much irretreivable.

my whole opinion has changed on this q vote thing. i used to care what people thought and voted. but, you know, who really cares. this is a great site for meeting people and gathering some beta. it is not a life and death thing. lets just go climb. after all isnt that what its all aboot?(sorry had to make fun of the canadians)

I agree. This q-rating thing has really gotten to be a stupid "Well, they gave me this, so I will too" game. I think that because now people can SEE who voted for them and what kind of rating they got, they want to give them the same thing back. The thing is, there are people on here that don't know much about climbing. Good, they're in the right place! We'll help them out! But when they give advice on forums that isn't very sound, and when they start to lead one to believe they don't really know what they're talking about, they deserve the low q-rating. But then the people who rate them like that suffer as well. I don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me. I think that the administrators should after every six months of someone being a member, give out q-ratings, and members can send helpful beta to them on how some people should be rated. Just an idea. As for now, I'm going outside and climbing! It's a great day for it and I'm done with finals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree that the q ratings are a waste. just get rid of them and focus on making the forums better. if you go to gunks.com they show you any new postings since you logged on last. it goes to the last posting so you dont have to wade through all the posts you may have already read. improve and focus time on this area. do we need q ratings? anyone who climbs knows what postings are good and what arent. so i say they are a waste of time and resourses. its aboot time for the gunks get together, cant wait see you all there.

Jeremy, I wasn't referring specifically to you, though I know that you were an offender. I've seen it all over the place.

i'm an offender? 0 to you! I think votes should be from 1-10, not 0-10. So all the votes of Zero get deleted.
