The Karak-Ourum aiders use lighter webbing to keep bulk and weight down, so they are best for climbing where sporadic aid pitches are encountered, like mixed long routes and alpine terrain. Burlier webbing should be sought out for pure big wall aid. The steps on these aiders fold up into Velcro retainers, out of the way until needed, when they can be rapidly deployed. Their handy U-shape design ensures easy access, even with plastic boots.
