Good glove for ice and mixed 3 out of 5 stars

Review by: Crimsonghost, 2007-06-05

I've used these gloves quite a bit - ice climbing in Norway and Colorado, in the Alps and winter climbing in Scotland. They're a really nice fit, precurved fingers and padding on the backs on the fingers and hand. The fabric is really tough, Schoeller on the back and "waterproof" leather on the palm. I say "waterproof" because since the first couple of outings, unless the weather was less than perfect, the palm of the gloves have wetted out every time. Despite applying waterproofing agent to the palms each time they're used, they still wet out fairly quickly. I have since used Seamgrip on the palms to render them completely waterproof, although they are not as grippy as they were. Other things to note are that the layout of the stitching on palms of the gloves mean the you shouldn't rappel while wearing them as the stitching will wear away. To sum up, these are a really nice glove for ice and mixed climbing in cold, dry conditions. If you want something that you can use in damp conditions, maybe look for something with a waterproof membrane.
